Situational awareness, presense of mind, quick physical reactions or reflexes, mental strength or toughness, composure, self-confidence, resourcefulness, the instinct or the will to fight back and defend yourself, and your self-defense skills and techniques (if you have any or some) which you have spent long periods of time practicing and training, can drastically increase your chances of successfully defending yourself and surviving potentially violent self-defense encounters. Speaking based on my experience as a self-defense practitioner. However, there's no certainty that you'll come out unscathed, that's why it's always best to avoid fights as much as you possibly can.

The first move I would make, is to get off of the X, then trap the fighting arm holding the knife, and then the sky is the limit.

Get off the X.. when you have the space and time and know the knife is coming. Bridge contact first when time/distance/awareness isn't available.

@@S2StrategicDefense Thank you for the reply, I appreciate it. If I perceive any threat, I will ALWAYS move off of the X, and deny them any opportunity first, and then access what I’m up against.

@@Ripper7620 absolutely. Problem is that we know from watching hundreds of actual encounters on camera that a very low percentage of attacks have the precursory intel which means you're dealing with the ambush first. I'd agree with ya...get off the X for sure but caveat that with the first part.. distance/time/awareness.
