You are wrong sir. I have hand technique that is specific to the karambit. As a blade artist it is important to know that your knife is an extension of your hands, and body. It is not the reach off a knife that is important, but the techniques, and training. Your strategic use of a straight edge does have disadvantages. So please be careful how you misleader people on your site. Other than that your information is particularly incorrect. In the words of Bruce Lee; " Timing and skill will beat speed, and strength,". The knife use is dependent on it, and not the size or sharpness of the blade.

😂Sorry wrong. No knife experience needed, anyone who has ever been in a fist fight boxing. Standard boxing stance, karambit in jab hand regular grip, knockout hand reverse grip. Just the jab hand will chop your fingers off blocking your lame straight blade. Right cross your head is severed. I’m a knockout artist with my fists. Double fist two different grips. The regular grip in the jab hand you can never even get close. I have disarmed many clowns bare handed with straight blades and guns. Never ever trained for it. Just barroom brawls, street fight situations, all that phony karate, blackbelt, training with knives whatever. That shit goes out the window. Easy to get a blackbelt and then get your ass kicked by some drunk dummy in a bar. Why, all that training is scripted. In real life that crap goes out the window. Double Karambits are dangerous in anyone’s hands. Easy to disable a straight blade knife from anyone who has just practiced on fake bags or with scripted rubber knives. I agree to disagree, I used to never introduce weapons to an altercation, but dozens of times when put there I have taken knives guns, bats from people and used their own weapons on them. That double Karambit no defense but a gun from a distance.

The reverse blade forward grip in that first example would be effective if the "instructor" would put ego and favoritism aside and just teach the pros and cons of every grip. The blade was in perfect position to slice the opps forearm in that example. My god this vid is so infuriating and cringy.

"Reverse blade forward grip"????? Reverse grip was the first one, standard/forward grip was the second. And where is the ego when we are discussing an aspect of distance and the partner's ability to engage AND ask the student to give his perspective?? Only thing cringy is your response. I think prioritizing slashes is a big mistake in self defense with a knife. There's a few reasons for this 1.) The average person isn't going to have a razor sharp edge on their pocket knife (most commonly what someone will be carrying) it doesn't take much clothing or bad form to eat up all the energy of that slash and make it ineffective if the knife is a bit dull. But you can bet that point is going to work, even if its a junky kitchen knife. 2.) In an emergency, it's not uncommon to get a bad grip on the knife or for it to twist while using it. If that happens, most of those slashes are going to be ineffective. If you're convinced your alignment will be perfect when it counts, you've never been jumped. 3.) An attacker is much, much more likley to feel/be stopped by a stab rather than a slash. 4.) People panic in emergencies. Stabbing is just much more natural than slashing. Look at most footage of knife crime, it's almost always sewing maching stabbing, not fancy slashing. So why fight instinct, especially when it's more effective?
@S2StrategicDefense3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. But I would actually differ in opinion. Slashing motion is actually the most common surprise response and that has been studied many times, in a variety of situations even not relating to self defense. For example.... you're standing around outside and a bee lands by your ear or buzzes right in front of you.. which motion do you make? A slashing motion. We cannot say slashing motion is ineffective. If it keeps the attack or attacker at distance away from you, then it is effective in its purpose. Also requires less accuracy than a stab, while also covering a larger target area which makes is harder to defend/stop/evade. For your third point, slashing actually is what stopping an attacker far more often than stabbing when we test this with training knives and marking knives. The wild and unspecified trajectory of the slash is what kept the role player bad guy from encroaching distance and actually backing up. I have about 500 of those experiments on video (VHS tape) from our group testing it over and over. People may panic in an emergency, but that actually gives them a natural gross motor movement. Slashing is found far more often here. As per footage of knife crime, the attack itself is more of a stabbing or sewing machine for sure. HOWEVER, look at defenses against an attack in which a knife was used, (I have videos of that as well) along with medical reports or police reports that accompany that.... and the most common motion is the slash.

The day I started training hubud, we had already gone through months of footwork and largo stick work. The moment we started hubud/sagang labo, we were immediately moving with the hits, trying to get angles, get off the line of attack, etc. Months of footwork and staying in the safe zones, avoiding mutual lines, helped us right away feel that standing still doing hubud was not going to fly. If you teach the essentials before throwing someone into hubud day 1, you have already taught them so much. I remember being frustrated because I joined Kali school to learn how to fight close quarters after having witnessed an assault. Almost 1 year later, my instructor finally let me train sagang labo, and I'm happy he made me wait that long.
@S2StrategicDefense6 ай бұрын
It's a progression at times, and a platform at others. I've used hubud for many reasons, for example: 1) Used Hubud to teach at the school for deaf and blind. We started with Hubud because the blind NEED to have tactile connection. 2) Teach students how to not stand still by pushing and pulling on them 3) Introduced students who are afraid to spar to light and medium contact 4) Police officers who I only have for a couple days at most on feeling for and applying subject control methods There are many uses and times that Hubud is a great platform. You'd be short changing yourself to think it's just a drill.
@wizeguy23886 ай бұрын
@@S2StrategicDefense Yes absolutely. Even some of the most basic drill movements can be directly applied and could save your life. Like just getting used to hands coming toward you and you reacting to that, like someone trying to grab you on the train, understanding where a punch might be coming from, someone pushing you, etc. Add a few destructions and dumog grappling to that, and it's a great self defense starter pack haha. I think hubud is fantastic for introducing people to close quarters, like you said it's good for people who are afraid to spar.

More than half of those you completely leave yourself open for a left hook lol. Techniques like that That are based on a one strike attack are useless unless youre living in a Roadhouse movie. If you're extremely lucky and the laziest person ever tries to throw one punch at you with no follow through, sure. But even an untrained person Is more likely going to be flailing wild punches fast. So not anticipating that other hand is a problem. If you don't know he'd movement or how to roll punches then use a block you would see in muay thai for blocking a head kick. How do you withhold your fist up to your head in boxing, But extend the hand back more, curling your arm, With your elbow almost pointing at him. This will cover your head with your upper arm and forearm and hand, tight. Will help you absorb the blow, And more importantly keeps your right hand free to counter or block that follow up left hand punch. For bare knuckle that's the best way to block punches If you're not using head movement or rolling under punches
@S2StrategicDefense8 ай бұрын
It clearly states" Defense against a haymaker".. which means the left hook isn't even a thing... which negates your perspective which sounds more like a MMA match than a street brawl. Thanks
