Very nice, helpful tutorial. The overall process took around 20 minutes the first time cleaning my Rogue Bar 2.0 and it made the bar spin better than when it was new.

You’ll screw up your bar if you go back to the 2” sleeve. The surface the bushing needs to ride on needs to be vert smooth and sticking 1” weights on that can damage the surface. That will make the sleeves not rotate smooth if you use those again
@bendtherules0

Also, the resultant 1" bar will not have any flanges (no separation between bar and the weight-loading section to stop the weights from sliding)

Many thanks for posting this. I have “The Rogue Bar”, purchased 2011, and this dramatically improved the spin. Spin is important for the Olympic lifts in particular. It would be really helpful if you could list the make and model of the snap ring pliers in the description. I purchased a pair of Knipex 5.75-inch internal straight retaining ring pliers. I was able to get them to work, but they were too small, which made it way more difficult than it needed to be, and I think I basically destroyed the tips of the pliers in the process. The snap rings are way trickier to deal with than the video suggests. Obviously this guy has a lot of experience. (I now have half an hour of experience.) One final note, be sure to get INTERNAL snap ring pliers. They make external ones too, which will not work at all.

Would lithium grease be appropriate for bushings make contact? Great video, thanks for sharing
@greggeis918
@greggeis918 2 жыл бұрын
Any advice on what lubricant to use? The Teflon spray in the video is much thinner than the factory grease. I imagine the spray attracts less buildup but probably doesn’t last as long. I noticed a difference in the sound, the spray is more metal on metal but spins a little faster with the lower viscosity but the lube sounds quieter, a little more dampened and refined. I was thinking maybe some white lithium grease for a heavier lube? Maybe use the spray in a dusty environment but expect to re-oil sooner and grease in a cleaner set it and forget it environment?

Throw some rust buster on the ends around the snap rings. The snap ring can get stuck in place over time with even a little bit of rust or just general "gunk" around the ring's slot. This can make it way more difficult to compress the ring and get it out of the ends. A little lube usually does the trick, in every line of work. But yeah cheap-o tools are definitely going to make it worse.

Is it normal for the snap ring to not be perfectly flat? The first time I removed mine I noticed that ends of the snap ring where you insert the pliers seemed like they weren’t in line with the rest of the snap ring. It still fits into the bar just fine but I’m the kind of person who worries about the tiny amount of wear created by the friction of it expanding into the groove when putting it back in there lol you can see where the cerakote has worn off around the groove that the ring goes into. I also want to encourage everyone to use quality pliers. I bought cheap ones with interchangeable heads the first time and the ring kept coming from off of them before it was completely removed and scratched some coating off of the sleeve. I like wear from actual use but stuff like this is just annoying.

I've recently purchased the rouge c70s bar. It has up and down and side to side play and the more weight plates are added the less freely the bar spins I've come across two other people with the same issues (except its the Ohio bar) I didn't care at first until I realised that the bar rotation is affected by adding plates. I've only just received it in the mail, the most weight I've used on it is 150lbs because I have a tender elbow and I haven't dropped it, I've set it down gently after use. Do you sell replacement parts for this barbell ? The spin on mine is terrible compared with the one on this youtube. What is the problem with it ? It is supposed to be brand new

I picked up a pair of Channellock 927 8-Inch Retaining Ring Plier and the Tri-Flow TF20006 Superior Lubricant from Amazon. It was $30, but should last the lifetime of the bars. It was all just as easy as it looked except for the inner snap ring. The snap ring pliers come with various sizes to change out, so I may experiment with a different size next time, cause the snap ring kept slipping off the pliers. I chose those pliers based on reviews.

@Jacobtaylor1775
@Jacobtaylor1775 3 жыл бұрын
@@Moreoverover You can get new snap rings at the hardware store. You can't really apply too much lubricant and it will leak if you do and you wipe it off. If you don't have the right tools, buy the right tools. The lubricant will smell like like a petroleum based lubricant, but if you're sweating you will probably only smell yourself. You can't really hurt your car, everything can be fixed and replaced. It's just overthinking. Don't limit yourself by overthinking what could happen and then never do anything. If you fail, so what? You learned what not to do.

No. Use spray on Lithium Grease, silicon, or 3 in 1 oil (last resort). you can also use spreadable lithium grease which is available at auto parts stores. Also use a lint free cloth, like an old t-shirt, for wiping. And, if grime is caked on the contact surfaces (bar or bushing), you can use steel wool to clean it before wiping it and applying the lubricant.

Great video, but I must admit. It makes me feel pretty stupid lol! I have the same barbell as you... In fact I have about 20 of them at our gym. I cannot for the life of me get the snap ring off. I used a pair of snap ring pliers, but I squeezed them so hard they themselves snapped. Then, I bought a more expensive pair of internal snap ring pliers. Been trying for days now, sometimes 1-2 hours at a time with no luck. I had to stop because I was getting inflammation from all the squeezing... But for the love of God I still can't remove the snap ring! It's as though the pliers don't close quite far enough for the ring to loosen properly. If I try to pull or wiggle the pliers at all, they just pop straight off of the snap ring. I must be as dumb as a bag of bricks. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? It looks so simple for the videos.
