Finally fixing my dashboard display on my 2022 Vitpilen 401. My display was delivered with a ton of scratches and smudges on the inside portion of the screen. It is also widely known these displays like to leak and allow condensation develop on the inside. This tutorial shows how to remove and disassemble these displays so common issues can be addressed.

Should change the title since it look like it will work on the Svart/Vit 701's too. Thanks for the super thorough video, totally top notch info and camera angles.

Well we don’t know that for sure. I would only change the title if I knew for sure it was the same on a 701. It probably is, but unless I know for sure and have confirmed it myself, I don’t want to state it as a fact. Thank you!

That’s a good idea. I may do that in the future, especially the chain, brakes, other fluids besides the engine oil. There’s already plenty of other videos showing how to change the engine oil on these. Thanks for watching!

Hey brother, thanks for this. I discovered all these smudges and stains this morning, weather was very cold, by midday with a bit of sun it cleared. I used a high pressure hose at a car wash last week and I fucking knew I shouldn't have blasted the dash. This caused all that inner crap 100%. So just a heads up to whoever reads this im going to use that anti fog spray that you use on helmet visors when I remove it so thanks for the demo. I'll let yas know how it goes or if I fk it right up. 😎

Haha you’ll be alright. Just take your time and it’s not too bad. These bikes have a lot of issues but luckily they are easy to work on because their construction is so simple. Most motorcycle displays you can’t even disassemble it at all. Cheers man.

Excellent stuff! BTW I’ve yet to see an instrument gage without smudges inside. So you will help many folks. One suggestion is to use RainX on the inside (after you polish) to avoid possible fogging.

Good job with that, thank you for sharing it with us. When you were describing the button feel, or rather lack of it, you gave me a mod idea to possibly transfer some more feel to the outside face of those rubber buttons. But I’d have to open my dash up and feel how much resistance there is on those little button posts before they’re activated. If it’s super super light my thought won’t work, although if there’s a modicum of resistance there might be hope, lol. Again thank you
@ridewithKY

Absolutely. I was hoping it’d help somebody and thought it was interesting how the buttons work. I would imagine those buttons might be an issue later as those pins inside are really flimsy plastic. Glad I was able to provide valuable information to you. Thank you for watching and for the positive feedback.

I'm looking at also restoring the instrument cluster of my 701 Svart. Relating to the O-ring of the dashboard, do you have an idea about the size? Also, considering the anti-fog coating that's present, would it be possible to apply an aftermarket coating? If so, any recommendations?
@ridewithKY
@ridewithKY 9 ай бұрын
I don’t have an idea on the size. Only thing I can think of is using this video to disassemble your cluster and then take the o ring to a hydraulics outfit to see if they can match the size. I don’t believe you can buy the o ring separate from Husqvarna. You probably could, but I couldn’t really guide you on the process there. Of course there are some anti fog solutions that are used in the snorkel/scuba industry, but again I don’t have any personal experience with that. Thanks for watching.

I thought about doing that but you lose a lot of the daytime readability. It’s not impossible to read during the daylight but it’s tougher and this display is already hard to read as it is sometimes.

@ridewithKY hey man pull the trigger on this bike last weekend, it was $500 off could not resist. Now the problem is my dash cover looked to have a crack from the inside as it does not feel like when touching the surface. Also those buttons push it / click it too many times since I got it and never worked. Display or settings never change when hit those 2 buttons. Do you know how to? have you experienced it with your bike?
@ridewithKY
@ridewithKY Жыл бұрын
If the dash cover is broken then I would take that back to the dealer. Can’t really fix that on your own as I don’t believe you can buy just the lens. Only other remedy is if you bought a used display off eBay and stole the lens off of that. You have to be really deliberate with how you push those buttons. It’s possible yours are not working of course but it’s probably more likely the way you are pushing them that’s the culprit. The way you have to push those buttons is awful.

My display got scratched pretty bad, I don't know if I should disassemble it and buff it out or get a new cover. I had them replaced before because of ABS lamp not working and looks like they put in an old stock cause the buttons look pressed a ton of times. and yes it was under warranty. The old one that I have, I placed a protective film covering, I regret not putting one with the replacement.
@ridewithKY
@ridewithKY Жыл бұрын
If the dealer will give you a new cover then that’d be advisable. However, if you need to buff it out then that’s not such a bad solution either. Too bad about your buttons, the buttons are actually easily removable on these displays so too bad the dealer didn’t transfer your buttons over. However, that brings us back to the original problem where they shouldn’t have replaced your display with a used one.
@nelomoto
@nelomoto Жыл бұрын
@@ridewithKY the dealership here kinda suck in terms of customer service. When my shifter fell off they just replaced it with a bolt lying around, and didn't even replace the spacer I got from someone that helped me when I was stranded at the side of the road. I had to go back and demand for a replacement because the bike was barely two months. I just noticed it when I got back home. Then after my 1st PMS, the ABS LAMP, got busted and I had to wait for a little over 6 months for the replacement. I got frustrated with what looks like an old stock and I don't want to wait for another 6 months for what I think is a new one.

Got yah. That’s a valid and common concern with these bikes. Yes they are warrantied but it’s a hassle to get it warrantied and the quality of the repair depends on the dealership. In my opinion a very important consideration when deciding to buy one of these bikes. These bikes are fun, but man they have a ton of issues.

It can be done, but generally replacing an LED in a display requires some soldering. Is the bike still under warranty?
@Styddy00
@Styddy00 Жыл бұрын
@@ridewithKY Yes, is still under warranty but I'm scared of the idea of taking my bike to the dealership because I already know that they will try anything instead of really solving the problem, they will end up completely replacing the dashboard zeroing the odometer. I don't think it's a coincidence that the bike was in the rain a few days before the problem
@ridewithKY
@ridewithKY Жыл бұрын
Of course it’s up to you but if it were me, I’d take it back to the dealer and allow them to change the display. If you tamper with it first and then bring it to the dealer, they probably won’t replace it. Zeroing the odometer is not a big deal, the dealer will provide documentation for this regarding when the display was changed and what the mileage was.

Glad this video will be helpful to you. I think every Vit/Svart display I’ve seen has been smudged/scratched on the inside or has condensation inside. You may be able to get a better o-ring if you have a hydraulics supply house nearby. Good luck to you, hope you can get yours fixed.
@darkstarmobile

@@ridewithKY I figure a bead of RTV around the edge and on the bottom of the screw posts would suffice. Since it’s a viscous liquid, it would seal any of the gaps. When I have mine apart, I’m going to dig deeper to see if I can change the colour of the internal backlight as well. I want it to have a cyan glow at night, but still look factory during the day. Also, hello from Australia!
@ridewithKY
@ridewithKY 7 ай бұрын
@darkstarmobile Sounds like a solid plan regarding the RTV. Hope that solves your issue, it’s annoying having your display fog up. I thought I saw a tutorial online somewhere on how to change the polarity of the display. Wonder if that tutorial floating around might be helpful to you changing the backlight to cyan. Either way, best of luck and cheers. Thank you for watching.

Have you thought about upgrading to the KTM color display?
@ridewithKY
@ridewithKY Жыл бұрын
I’ve thought about it. BadWinners makes a plug and play digital display that is really similar looking to the factory KTM. It’s pretty expensive however, I believe $700+. I don’t know if that’s worth it for this bike. I actually like the aesthetic of the factory display. It fits the design concept of the bike in my opinion. Almost has the look of an 80’s Casio watch. However, functionally the display is awful. Night or day the display is very difficult to read.
