Finally a new pinball video. I enjoy your project, and I learn a lot from it. I am also new to this hobby, and I have also chosen to build it completely first and paint it later.I think I won't take that route again for next time. But if you are new to this hobby, it is the best way to learn a lot. The best way to learn is to see what you could have done differently

I started building my vpin, last fall, when you were early in the series. Thank you for the amazing instructional videos and answering my questions. I know your videos will be the absolute goto for all who want to take on this project. I'm already doing upgrades because I originally was going with your budget focused theme. But I love nt vpin so much that I am now taking it to the "All Out" level.

Another great video! Like you, I disassembled my cab to paint the interior. Before painting, I painted each screw hole in the cabinet with dayglo paint (any paint or no paint would work). Then I placed a round sticker (like a small price label) over each hole. After painting the inside black, I was able to remove each label/sticker and easily see where the screw holes were. If I drank your energy concoction, I'd be awake for a week. Wow! 🤣

I've got an AirBnB and I've put a lot of games in my garage. I started with a racing rig as I do love auto racing. Now doing the vpin build following along with Way of the Wrench videos. I figured that with all the work to put one together from scratch, I'd go with 4k from the beginning. Such a fun project, and these give my AirBnB a competitive edge. And the grandkids are eager to come over too. And to top it all, apprenticing my grandson during the vpin build.

There is kind of a third way, or an in between way, that I use to practice - and my wife hates me for it :D From time to time she sees me zone out of conversation, and ask me "are you building in your head again?" - which I am. I use to say that I always build a project twice - first in my head, on paper, in SketchUp (probably all three) and then I build the actual project. That way, I practically never face any problems, because everything is (overly) planned out before I even start building. It takes me double the time to finish a project, but since I love building, I don't mind having to build it twice - in my head and in reality ;) Keep it up, it will all be worth it. Cheers from a fellow builder.

Yeah it sucks..... I'm going on 3 months now without my vpin. I'm getting close to being done though ( the budget build....upgrades being planned) as I am ahead of where my videos are. I am finishing the final assembly maybe next week. I've been playing fx3 on my PS4 to deal with my pinball addiction. You still loving your c2? That's my plan for a 4k upgrade in a 48" size. Thanks for the feedback. Yes, my C2 is awesome and have absolutely no regret about it. The only tricky part is the power ON / "OFF" pixel cleaning cycle but I was able to use the TV ON feature of my Pinscape AIO controller. Works great. I am working on a side project for a custom power control / timer module to make it even better and for those who do not have the same control option. @@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench Жыл бұрын
Perfect, I'm getting closer to the 4k upgrade plan. So what's the tricky part for the pixle cleaning? Does the power to the tv need to stay on? I've got my current tv in a always on spot on the power strip so coming back later to shut the cabinet off should be a big deal. Does the C2 have an auto sense and turn on for power on?
@MasterOnion

This is why I painted my cabinet first after assembly, although there is a little bit of touch up to do as the playfield mount was a little too tight to the sides. But of course it's easier to see in your videos with the naked wood.
@Jewer76
@Jewer76 Жыл бұрын
I'm with you on this one. I also painted after assembly. My solution to not having to do touch ups was to use black mate vinyl on the inside of the cabinet. It looks amazing and when handling the playfield mount carefully, it doesn't scratch at all.
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench Жыл бұрын
There's no wrong way to do this. There are pros and cons to do either way. Thanks for the watch!
@crennyw
@crennyw Жыл бұрын
Definitely going to paint mine before assembly! lol. One question I'm thinking of is can you remove the legs from the Pinball machine, fold down the back case, and transport it in a 4Runner and set it up again? I may be wanting to do that every 6 months or so. I saw there were parts near the legs and so my question, wondering if the leg bolts are obscured by parts nearby. Of course, those parts could be placed in a way to access the leg bolts. Answered my own question :) What's the whole thing weigh? In my build, I've ordered a pre-cut plywood case and 4k 120hz TV for the playfield. I'm putting together a gaming PC without a case to power the graphics card and 4k graphics. I've overspent a bit, but dang it's going to be awesome hopefully. I'm following along with your parts orders for the most part. My dining table is covered in electronics at the moment :)
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench Жыл бұрын
Yes you can just support the cabinet and remove the leg bolts and lower the blackbox to fit in a suv. I'm a little leery to just rest the blackbox t molding edges onto the stainless playfield sides though. Maybe make a carpeted/padded protector. It's heavy. I have 4 rolling caster plates that I can put underneath the legs one at a time and roll it around no issues. However, picking it up to put in an SUV would be rough. You would need 2 or three people for sure. Awesome, sounds like you're gonna have an awesome build. Send me pic when you're done! Cheers!

Ye gods...I have been watching you build this and I am in the middle of planning my own cab as a winter project. And I am in the Uk, so if it was me, I would remove screens etc and JUST PAINT THE OUTSIDE! And not take everything out of the cab when its that neat. You can paint the outside, add vinyl graphics etc, do the back box, but there really is no point doing the inside of the body, most classic pinball tables I have seen are not painted inside either. Its not going to be in damp area so will not need protecting to that degree...
