My good friend and Arcade owner had an OUT OF SIGHT game. I won a lot of free games on it many moons ago. Rodger took great care of his games. He had a back room were he would fix the bad Snafus . When he was closed he was always doing some kind of maintenance . From waxing to fixing lights and flippers , to cleaning button contacts on Asteroids and cleaning Trac Balls on Missile Command and putting new tunes on the jukebox. When he retired he gave all his games to the Kiwanis boys home. We miss you Rodger . RIP.

I got a gottlieb "300" back at home which I got from my dad. After playing a bit smoke came out of the cabinet and it stopped working and I am too afraid to go looking for the problem. Watching your videos hopefully gives me a basic idea what I see on the inside of the machine when I am brave enough to open it up.

It's always scary when the magic smoke comes out of any electronic device: You already know that getting that smoke back in there is a tricky task, and collecting the smoke is just about impossible.

My guess would be some sort of short in the motor switch stacks that's pulling in the player unit coil when it shouldn't... good luck finding it.

This will be interesting to watch you chase down these issues. ….I’ve never had a machine that wants to start at ball 2. …Also never had a machine that scores two players at the same time. … With the checkered pattern, …well maybe this game started out as being a race car theme, and then for some reason they went in another direction?? Thanks for the video Ronnie.

I'm going to laugh if someone simply mixed up the plugs for the ball-one and ball-two lights. (But if that is all that was wrong, the other issues wouldn't be happening, so obviously there is something more to work on.)

I'm, thinking just cleaning the Jones plugs and a light coat of dielectric grease instead sanding would work. From what I remember they are tinned to reduce oxidation of the brass. Either way they outlasted most of the 80s electronic systems interconnect. Great videos and really interesting to see the compact position contact switched (LOL I think you called them math). Just plain freaking cool stuff.

JOE CLASSIC, what do you mean by a fail safe switch or how do you tell which relay switches are fail safe switches?
@ocsrc
@ocsrc Жыл бұрын
Seeing the old school brown pcb boards. I think they went to the newer material in the 80s. They went to a green material and then a different brown in the late 90s. You don't see the green pcbs much anymore. They were around for a decade. Reminds me of the transition to CFL bulbs for incandescent. The CFLs we're around for about 10 years, then it was all LED bulbs. Now you can't find a CFL bulb The LEDs are different levels of quality The cheapest like Walmart sells, they burn out in just a few months. Same with the Panel LEDs They last about 3 months I have been trying to find good led panels I have outdoor led panel security lights and I can't get up to replace them at the peak of the roof If anyone knows of a real good quality outdoor led panel 100 WATT, please let me know I have the LED light that are 50 watts that are on the porches and they are holding up well. The LED panels were specific orders for them. They don't sell those in stores

probably a dumb question but, for the big flat surfaces of those pcbs with copper traces from the various rotating contraptions would it be a bad idea to rub CIF cream on a cloth to polish all those to a shine rather than sandpaper?
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what CIF cream is but yes anything to clean them is just fine, you just don't want anything conductive that will seep into the board material and short the pads together....

When you use the dielectric grease, does the grease itself conduct electricity, like solder would ? Is the super lube the same thing as the dielectric grease ? Or is super lube not the same thing and doesn't conduct electricity ? I am thinking if the grease conducts electricity it would short all those pads to each other.
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade Жыл бұрын
The super lube is dielectric grease too... it's an insulator, so it doesn't conduct, because like you said it would short all the pads together and start a fire likely... but anything conducts when the space is small enough, even air conducts which is why you see sparks shooting through the air on the old EM's.... so as it gets down to basically metal on metal, the grease conducts that small distance but insulates over a larger distance (i.e., the distance between two pads on the board).... Magical stuff!
@PeterWMeek
@PeterWMeek Жыл бұрын
The important thing for a contact grease is that it has low film strength. Unlike lubricating greases which need to keep the metal parts from touching each other and thus needs high film strength, contact greases need to *let* the contacts touch each other while maintaining a barrier to keep oxygen and moisture away from the metal surfaces. This is why you use vaseline on car battery terminals but never on bearings. Excellent barrier but very low film strength. (No grease conducts electricity unless it has conductive particles in it like heatsink grease.) As for WD-40, it is good for one thing only: displacing moisture. It sucks as a lubricant and leaves a nasty residue.

Is Pepsi sponsoring you ? I see the Pepsi can displayed, or rather Diet Pepsi can. A lot of channels have sponsorship from companies for them to display the products in the video, but not like an ad, just product placement. You should be paid by Pepsi if you drink Pepsi and have them in your videos. I drink caffeine free Pepsi because I can't have caffeine, but not the diet caffeine free Pepsi, just the regular caffeine free Pepsi. The brown label one. For 2 years during the pandemic, they didn't make it. It was not available in any store I was jonesing so bad after a 18 months, I found an online seller that had 24 cans and I paid 3 dollars a can for them. But they were so old and had been exposed to high temps and the soda was flat and it tasted awful and I don't know how a can can go flat. First time I ever saw that. Plastic bottles I have had for a year and not go flat. But I have found cans of Pepsi in vending machines in old communication facilities where the cans had been in the machines for at least 10 years, maybe 20 years, and no one had been in to stock them, but they still had full carbonation. They didn't taste as bad as the ones I bought during the pandemic. But I really wanted it and it was expensive to have that much weight shipped. I think they were 20 pounds, maybe more than that. I couldn't get a refund, so I was really disappointed. Pepsi is a great product. I have always been a big PepsiCo fan. I think I told thet story about Eagle Brand potato chips Eagle had been a cheap product snack company. They sold those boxes of chips and pretzels and cookies and other snack products for small offices, where you have an open box and you put the money in a basket. And they sold in small mini marts and convenience stores but usually not in the bigger chain stores. So PepsiCo bought out a couple companies and I guess eagle was one of the companies and I think it was just the potato chip factory that made the chips for eagle that Pepsi wound up with and I don't know what they did but I had had the eagle brand potato chips and they were awful but around football season that year Pepsi had, you know what I'm wrong that wasn't Pepsi that was Anheuser-Busch it was Anheuser-Busch the people that make Budweiser they bought a bunch of different companies and they wound up with the eagle brand and they must have changed where they made them or how they made them because they went from a terrible brand to the best potato chips on the market. They had the stacks of the 18 pack or 24 pack Budweiser cans and that's why I thought it was Pepsi for a minute but I remember the display now and they had the eagle brand chips in the big bags sitting on top of the display and I bought them to see what they were like and they literally were the best chips I've ever had in my life Unfortunately I guess Budweiser didn't want a chip company and they must have been stuck with it for a year as part of the deal and they stopped making them and I couldn't believe such a great product they stopped making. The same thing happened with ballpark Franks they were the best hot dogs on the market and they were made by a private company and one spring a company that owns most of the hot dog brands in America there's basically two companies and I can't think of either of them but one owns the low end brands like the 99 cent packages and I think Walmart carries all of those low end hot dogs all made by the same company and then the higher and is made by a different company and that company bought out ballpark and for about 6 months from the spring through the summer into the fall one year there were literally no ballpark Franks anywhere in the country and then they were back in the fall and I immediately knew the second I bit into it they had wrecked the hot dog and they weren't using the same material the same recipe the same anything. It's hard to find really good food and when you find something they usually stop making it I worked in the meat department at a big chain grocery store back in the '80s and again in the 90s and they used to have an actual meat department where they would get sides of beef and they had real butchers and they would make the hamburger in the back of the store and we had 93% lean hamburger that was made all from the trimmings and it was so good Then to save money in the mid-90s they fired all the butchers and eliminated the meat department at least the meat department where you need a butcher and everything comes in pre-packaged from the company's the meat packing companies in the Midwest and the hamburger is just awful and I haven't been able to find real hamburger since the mid-90s. I really miss having a good hamburger And even the cuts of beef that all come in pre-packaged have preservatives and the MSG in them and I've tried taking cuts of beef and grinding them up myself but they were just as bad as the hamburger I wish I could find a local farm that still does their own beef but even here in Pennsylvania there aren't farms anymore that do cattle. When I was a kid this area had hundreds of farms with beef cattle and they did all the slaughtering locally and even some of them did their own right on the farm But that's all gone now So sad There are so many people who have never had a real hamburger or a real hot dog Such a shame
