Ummmmmmmmm. ya even if you haven't established trust you rly can't punish your bird it will speed up the process of your bird losing trust in you all together. Also your bird should respect you if you are a good bird owner and if your bird ACTAULLY trusts you then they should respect you, and birds are VERY social and loving and a good pet to have IF they have trust in you so what she is saying is rly not true about you bird doing whatever they want whenever they want. They don't do that if they trust you. I am not trying to be rude sorry but ya your bird should listen to you if they trust you.
@phorcysocu2 жыл бұрын
i am a bit confused cause birds are not pack animals. they are flock animals, so they dont have an alpha or a leader that they listen to. Treat training will work for sure but other than that theyre not gonna sit in the cage and wait for you to take them out. they do whatever they want. i think thats also why they develop feather plucking behavior or biting the cage all the time or things like that. so i think its the best to treat them with their own natural instincts/behavior but also should be considering their character. well this is my idea but correct me if im wrong please.

I do have some experience as a 🐦 owner and have trained multiple birds before. My nephew and niece just rehomed their dusky headed conure to me, and he's a biter. Not too defensive in his cage, loves head rubs, will NOT step up. Lot of work ahead. He's only been here a couple of days, but there does already seem to be some trust. I also have the most precious, but needy, cockatiel imaginable. Hoping Baby can help model good behavior for Skittles. Integrating them into a cohesive happy flock will be a challenge.

So my bird is really weird, he goes with me literally about anywhere, hes always on my shoulder or head. He bites a lot and im trying to break him off it. Also he likes picking at my scar on my neck. (My neck is fused from an accident where i broke it). Hes also not good in cages what so ever he always trys to break out because the previous owner has always let him sleep literally in her bed... so all the trust is there with Remi. Hes not clipped/leashed anything but is always on my shoulder. Hes an amazing bird i just need more control and i dont wanna over whelm/stress him out.. any help would be amazing.

im not big on training... but i at least instinctively know to associate sweet tones upon praise and a single word and tone for criticism, bad behavior. Knowing about sanctuary perches and boxes. I am bad with my hands though. I flick his beak when he is very naughty and raise a finger to signal for him to 'stop'. But he does trust my hands, he just knows my tone and signal when he is naughty.

Thank you again💗. I’m figuring out which type of bird is a good match for me. Your conure green cheek is super friendly and your Quaker isn’t. Another person on KZbin has the opposite experience. Her Quaker is super affectionate. Her daughter mushes that bird up it’s so sweet and he just lets her.. Again some seem super affectionate while others are stand offish. Ugh... The conure is particular. I then am also looking at ring neck parrots. I’d like a talker but one I can make a bond with is keyI want to make the right decision. I’m looking to adopt an older bird. I’m over 50. Hope to live to 100! But I’d still like to outlive my parrot and share. It’s hard in nyc all organizations are out of town Any thoughts to share? Thanks again.

He’s doing a lot better and is learning that he will get out again. He’s learned to trust me. I’m usually the only one to let them out of their cages I feed them I change their water. He’s figured out I Love him and want what’s best for him. Love this video definitely helpful.

We do peek a boo, a light rub on tummy and a few other things but he always bites hard. Drives me crazy. The only other thing is he loves to lean his head in my ear and rest. But if I'm touching something he wants or don't like he attacks my ears. Bed time is a dream and after 12 hours sleep he gets up and we tuck in sweater and rttgt5....,

I've had my bird a few months and I like to think we have a bond starting but it needs work (of course) I try target training he does but sometimes he bites me instead of taking the treat But when I have a fresh fruit he will eat the fruit and not bite me. Feels like I'm doing something wrong. My husband and I are Patient that's not an issue. He likes to hop on my arm shimmy till he reaches my neck then nuzzle me. He gently nips my neck, still hurts but he is showing restraint

Hello, I just got a green cheek conure and I would like some advices, when he's not accustomed to me and my hand, in the begginning, do I let him to go out the cage? If yes how? Even with a treat or a perch he's going to freak out when I get close the first days. And second, mine is a bit loud and I'm scared he's going to be louder in the future, how do I get him to understand that that's not good? Thanks for your videos, they are so usefull :)

I just got a GCC around 4 days ago and I can hold him but it has to be with both hands other wise he would fly away. I started by going into a small room that was safe for him and opened the cage and let him out and sat there and basically ignored him while he decided to come out of the cage. When he flew onto the floor I tried to grad him( I got too exited so don’t do that) he bit me really hard so i just left him alone for around 10 minutes. Eventually I decided to try to pet him but he wouldn’t let me so I cupped him in my hand against the cage gently. He bit me but he calmed down( conures like to cuddle so that’s we he calmed down) I began to stroke his beak and then moved to his cheek. He then realized that my finger was ok. Now he cuddles up against my neck. I still am trying to get him to step up but he’s not ready. Idk if this is the right way to do it but it worked for me. Hopefully this was helpful☺️

Hi there, I’m having some difficulty with my older Green Cheek, he is 3 and I’m noticing some new negative behaviors. He is being more territorially aggressive towards things I give attention too, like my water bottle or a tissue. He is becoming more aggressive and biting when I drink my water, blow my nose w a tissue, etc while he’s on me. We have been in a home transition for a while and I think he is pretty hormonal. I’m also pregnant and wondering how he’ll behave when my attention is on the baby, epically If he’s becoming more territorial with me. The training I’ve done before doesn’t seem to work well for this situation, usually when he bites I put him in the other room alone for a while and that’s been enough to teach him. That doesn’t seem to work lately. What should I do to switch these neg behaviors?

My pineapple green cheek conure loves me. I know that because he is possessive of me. Most of the time he will step up and and just be with me doing anything but randomly he goes crazy. Why does he do that? Meaning he will bite and not let go. And it is out of no where.

I don't recommend listening to most of this advice at all please...do more research. You DONT have to let birds "know who is in charge" birds are flock animals not with one leader
@tomferrier61433 жыл бұрын
It's certainly important to listen, but decide what is right for you/your bird and not take any one persons advice. While you're right that they don't have an 'alpha', members of a flock will bully each other over food and attention. The idea is to teach them that they can't push you around, without mistreating or yelling at your bird. Anyone with multiple conures will tell you they squabble and nip each other, and are perfectly fine at settling arguements this way.
@tomferrier61433 жыл бұрын
Disagreeing with what she says is fine though, and definitely 1000% better than blindly accepting. If something else works for you and your birds, that's great!
@lorrainepaul59285 жыл бұрын
I would have to say that your advice regarding taming and disciplining green cheek Conures is the best I have heard on KZbin. I bought a green cheek plus another Conure of unusual colour online. The seller has moved away and I am unable to contact him. Neither bird was fully tamed, I have persevered so far, but now I am at a loss. A breeder of large parrots told me that I will have no hope of taming either now that they have mated. I am also at a loss as to what to do if the eggs hatch. I know that the adult birds will know how to raise them,, however, if I wanted to tame them, without having to take them away from their parents when I put them back in the breeding box will the parents still accept them? There is nothing, so far, on youtube that gives this type of advice!
@VictoriaRyann5 жыл бұрын
Aweee thank you Lorraine!!! This was so motivating and kind to read thank you for taking the time to say this. Well for your situation, I don't have as much experience in. Hopefully soon I can work alongside a knowledgeable breeder that can teach me. What I have noticed and been told though, is the parents not accepting is a myth. They don't rely on smell as a form of recognizing their hatchlings. So I wouldn't worry about whether the parents accept them but still definitely look into this! Youll have to decide to how and when you are going to start taming the babies. For example if you're wanting to do all the handfeeding yourself, coparent, or let the parents take care of them. Its a tricky process no doubt! Very overwhelming for sure but if there is anything I can do to help let me know :)
@lorrainepaul59285 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for replying, Victoria. You are an inspiration with your advice. I will try to look into it as much as I can but information just isn't available. I am elderly and disabled, so hand-feeding is not an option. I will let you know if I find out more, also, what I decided to do that is best for the hatchlings and parents first and then myself Thank you again!

literally hope this works, I've had my conure for just over a year and he is so aggressive towards me, I don't think he's scared cause he literally charges at me or flies over to me just to bite my face, I've tried so many things were for at least two weeks I try and give him treats when he's being good and just flies over and doesn't attack me but then out of nowhere he will fly over just to bite me, I've been told to never hit a bird and to not make a noise when he bites but it's so hard when each and basically every time he bites he draws blood. I'm the only one that gets him out of the cage and have started to try and put him back but never successfully done it without him biting and hanging on. he's never drawn blood on anyone other than me and loves my mum, dad, brother and partner. he used to like me, but ever since he could fly (so about after 8 months old) I've had no success on getting that sweet personality back.

Hey I am watching your video and you have same parrots I do. My quacker is 2 years old "Baby" and I was told she will bite the blood out of you. I have just gotten her 2 days ago. She mocks other birds calls. She will say, "not baby, cuse me, pretty bird, and thank you" she cies like a real baby, and the flirting whistle. That all shes done so far she love ms kids she does tricks for them. I am giving her time to adjust to her new surrounding before I try to get her out of he cage. Now my Conure "Harry" 3 years old loves for me to cup my hand over him on my chest and sing him children songs, getting on my shoulder, getting in my hair while he grooms it, and perching on my head. Harry loves children quiet kids he will also show the tricks. I have had for 2 months now. I think they maybe smitten with each other. However, for right now I will keep them separated.

Quaker parrot had a lot of tail fluffing throughout the video. For my 2 GCCs I agreed w/ most except getting them out of the cage for the day. I have a playpen right next to their cage & my younger one perches there very enthusiastically & normally poops there. The older guy usually stays in for awhile nibbling on the ground. Then when done he either joins his buddy or goes to his “bird cave”. I used to have to Chase him out of there if I needed him back in cage but for over a year now he goes into a bowl that’s planted there when I say, “let’s go for a bowl ride”. Sometimes the pliminerary is calling his name, me bending down & we do a bird dance together. Then I say, we’re going to see Lewis. He always wants to see his Lewis. I think it help I’m retired & they see me an awful amt. Lewis who will be 5 next month is mostly over his biting phase but there are moments. I have very fragile skin so I let him no with controlled anger that I am not happy. He will get a mandatory cage time which he actually doesn’t mind. He’s not a super sensitive bird like Cooper is. Well that’s my story. My 2 boys are my kids. By the way, you have a very cute toddler. 😊

We had a yellow sided Before we loved her and she was perfect match for are family. So we got another gcc. His name is bam bam. He is 8 mouths old and I don’t think the person before us worked with him on good behavior. He is an ear nut no earrings for me or rings in general. he nips hard. And he bites when he doesn’t get his way. Like trying to take him off your head. He goes back to his cage when he wants and takes a nap or a brake. I tryed a clicker. He ignored me. Do you have any ideas for DIY treats that work well for Gcc . He is over weight to so I really have stayed away from treats. I have looked for treats at our pet shops. Unfortunately I live in a place where pets are pets and not part of the family so there is little to chose from. Any help would be good I would love to have a well behaved gcc (he’s kinda of a bully)

Which bird is smarter , yoshi or popples
@VictoriaRyann5 жыл бұрын
Hmm that is a toughy!! Popples is my escape artist while yoshi is really smart at target training. Smart in their own ways I suppose!

Hi Victoria. We adopted Jaison our Black Capped Conure almost a year ago. The previous owner said he is 11 years old. He used to have a great relationship with me but now flies to me just to bite. He is absolutely fine with my partner now whereas previously he used to bite my partner. The biting and aggression toward me now is rather quite vicious. I’ve watched some of your videos but any help and advice will be appreciated. Thanks! Mags

Hey Vic, I'm loving your witty but very helpful videos. We have just adopted a green cheeks conure, she is super sweet but she is on a secret mission to destroy my engagement ring, she also enjoys plugging my partner's hair which is hilarious but he is quickly becoming bald. Do you have any tips how to stop these habits?

Hi Victoria Our green cheek conure won't stay in the cage. He would freak out once he is in the cage. I'm okay to let him be free when im home. But when I go to work, then i would start to get concerned because our house isnt bird proved every where. What should i do? I really look forward to receive advice from you. 💚

I appreciate your videos. You do a great job explaining "bird stuff"! Did you stop making videos or get a new channel?

How much experience do you really have with conures specifically? They are not parakeets for oneThey don’t respond well to discipline. They are not like dogs cats or human kids. . If yo think they’re. pooping on your cashmere sweater on purpose then you should not really have birds. literally come back To bite you later When you come near any object used in conjunction with discipline they will bite the heck out of your arm if they’re on your shoulder. The trick training I see you doing is done without discipline that I see. This is all very bad and dangerous advice. Please stop.

I’m sorry I didn’t just kill bad if I should give some good advice too. But by even mentioning discipline to some people they’re going to interpret that as hitting or squirting or covering up all day long yelling out etc. and I don’t think that kind of behavior needs to be encouraged with the word discipline that’s all thank you and sorry for overreacting

What is a brand of harness/leash do you reccomend? Also, how long did it take you to get them to trust you enough to put the harness on? I just got my GCC this past weekend. Not sure if M/F, but it has warmed up to me, but have not allowed it out of the cage because we aren't allowed to have animals inside. I have an outdoor cage. I would like to be able to allow it out, but I do not want to have it fly off and get hurt. Thx

I have a Green Cheek Conure and I'm new to the bird world. He so far has allowed me to pet him and talk to him while talking back. Recently after having him for about 4 weeks and he being about 4 months old bit me while perching on my arm. This has caused me to be nervous around him so hes shyd away from me letting him pet him. How do I fix this?

Hi Victoria! Thank you for your videos. On top of enjoying you I learn from them So out of all the videos I watched on stopping conure biting, you are the correct one to ask this question.. I have a pineapple green cheek conure that will be 1 soon. In any case, in certain cases when they bite you hard out of nowhere and keep doing it, I want to put her in her cage and say we don't bite. If you bite you go down. HOWEVER, she apparently did not read the instructions where if you cover them w a towel, they release or more easily release bc they can't see and then you can put them back. She does not losen her feet AT ALL and bites hard through the towel. I don't remember this w my first one. Do you have this and can you please give advice??!! THANKS!!! (and happy new year!!!)

I have a green cheek named Nessie who I have had about a little over a month now. She lets me feed her from my hand and when got her she was clipped so she only steps up when she flies and wants help back to her cage. She is so nice and has never bit me or anyone else. We never chase her and always let her come to us. The problem is that she isn't interested in the treats and just wants to preen my arm or finger. She is very gentle, but won't step up. She does the same thing to my shirts or sweaters. Any advice on this?!

I am a new bird owner. My neighbor gave me a 16 year old orange fronted conure she had since a baby. The bird was never really trained and was left in a room by herself with a tv all her life. She was allowed to bite holes in her owners clothes and screech her head off. It is obvious she is very happy to be with people and getting lots of attention. She sits on top of her cage and gets as close to my face as she can without touching me. She copies sounds I makes and talks up a storm but she won’t step up and won’t let me touch her even though she wants to be near me all the time. She is now eating out of my flat open hand but will bite me if I try to bait her to step up. How do I teach her to step up and let me touch her. I have only had her three weeks. Thank you.
