Since your title here is Wild discus ... Remember the ph tends to be crucial with the wild bs the hybrids so if your a newbie, keep a eye on things every few hours and I mean everything. You don't need to continually test the water but monitor the fish. If getting them shipped to you what temp is the bag water, check it and acclimate as George does. Easier to start with hybrids than wild but they are all amazing. Wish you well.

Always enjoy seeing his fish, discus or not. He's very right about stability as the ph is concerned. and yes wild discus are another matter requiring more strict adherence to the rule. Ten gallons per discus is a general rule of thumb but if many other community fish you might consider cutting back on one to that rule. I also suggest staying away from live bloodworm and offering a variety of food. If this man has grandchildren they probably fall asleep in his lap watching fish or being read to. Theres something about his voice that will put you to sleep after a full meal, ha, ha!

@@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto Congrats grandpa! It's crazy times were in, protect that child to the best of your ability, sometimes out kids won't listen , that applied to me as well. Read to that kid, start early and 10/1 you get a advanced reader. Your kid can let me know who falls asleep first if you kick back in a comfy chair and read. I think we should get a photo of that. They don't stay small long, I hate that.

Thankyou for the video. I am new to your channel and hooked. Your information regarding discus is going to help me keep the best tank possible. I am letting my tank cycle about another month…maybe more. How do you feel about a couple of large sponge filters and a Tidal 110 for my 90 gallon? My back isn’t the greatest and pulling a canister out a couple times a week might be too much. Also, would a h.o.b filter create too much water current for these wide bodied slow moving fish? 18:44
@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto Жыл бұрын
Congratulations! I am glad to hear you are taking the time to “Season your tank” you probably know what I am going to say about the canister… it is the best filtration you can get especially if it has a built in UV. Run your Temp. At 86 degrees F• no less. This keeps many parasites and diseases to a minimum. Try not to feed live worms etc. this creates very bad habits and a tremendous amount of stress on both you and the fish. Buy your fish knowing what they are eating already and try to offer more variety of foods slowly for healthy fish. Beef Heart pellets are my favorite offer them early on in small amounts as they are very messy. I would make your flow as slow as you can “without losing filtration” thus the importance of a Canister if you can. When the time comes I have a new service that you can read about in my last video that may help you. Sponge is the best in my opinion as well as a new crushed volcanic rock media that is becoming more popular. If not make sure you have a large surface are of pores ceramic. Good luck!
@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto Жыл бұрын
You do not need to clean your canister more than once every few months. You should be able to get someone to pull it out for you? Oase is very quiet and you can get a built-in UV. I am under the belief that if you do less with bothering your fish you will have fewer problems. Thanks for the (Thank you $) it helps me help you a great deal.

Your videos are really informative, thanks for taking the time to create them. Have you ever kept Platy's with Discus? I have a 75 gallon that has a bunch of platy's, sterbi corrie and a couple of SAE. I am thinking about converting this to a Discus tank and wondering if some of the platy's could work as dither fish? I also have a 135 gallon custom tank that is setup as a south american tank. What brand of air pump do you use? Thanks again.
@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto Жыл бұрын
My concern is that they are central American and South Mexico natives and the temps may be to high for them. I don't have a good answer for that. I use Aquatop Pumps. Love how quiet they are.

Believe it or not a simple light system with white and blue lights only I find best. I like the look and have little or no algae issues because I try to use low light plants. As far as heaters try and go on Amazon and use their best medium priced digital for the size of your tank. You get what you pay for.
