Mrs. Patti, tyfs! I'm new to your channel. I just started the video. I wanted to go ahead and leave my comment. The plates are beautiful. I love love love Shabby Chic. French Cottage Chic, Cottage chic, of course farmhouse style. I can't sew like a professional. I can sew a little with a needle but not the way it is properly done. I love to watch you ladies with the wisdom show off your talent. I don't know how old this video is but I love you and your channel so far. God bless. Sending lots of love your way.

I'm so sorry Miss Patti. Just returned from a trip to San Diego (my husband fulfilling an 18 year rain-check!) I'm catching myself back up on your videos. I love this for keepsake quilts! All I've been able to find (other than repair then putting up as a wall hanging) is framing squares from the quilt. I can see this as another way to 'distribute' a favored but overly loved quilt amongst loved ones! ps: your projects are my favorite inspiration 'recipe' resource! Hugs

I just spent over $50 to paint some checkerboard plates that looked AWFUL. Then I found this video and did my plates with fabric from checkerboard bandanas and they look like the came from Neiman Marcus, all for just $2.50 a plate. THANK YOU!!!! A question...do I need to let the oven cool down before putting the plates back in for the second bake? Is it important that the temperature rise gradually or will the plates crack if I put them in a hot oven?
@annajbananas7 жыл бұрын
anna eidson sounds great. love the checker board
@patioelf7 жыл бұрын
That is a great story to read Anna! I'm so happy that worked out for you. Isn't it amazing what a little decoupage can do? As far as the oven, as long as the plates are never cold (like if they are being stored outside in the fall or winter) you should be fine putting them into any oven that's set to 175 or less. The reason I put them into a cold oven is more because of the timing (in addition to taking that extra step so they don't break) But what I do is put it into a cool oven and turn it on, by the time the oven is warmed up, the plate has warmed up (and dried) that much sooner, I then turn the oven off and leave it in for a little bit-by the time I'm done everything is dry. :) Thank you Anna, I loved reading your success story! Dear Elf, Decades ago I purchased a decoupage kit from QVC. I wish I remembered the brand name of the crystal clear medium. I bought fabric and clear glass plates and that was my first decoupage experience. I don’t believe they were dishwasher safe. I think the best way to clean them was just the front trying to keep the back as dry as possible. I never used them.

@farmersgranddaughter91728 жыл бұрын
very interesting...what would you reccomend to create some background tiles or glass squares to use as a background on wall behind my stove?I cannot find any vintage black and white tiles to use anywhere so decoupage looks like a possibility..dont know if I should use clay tiles and use your flower pot method or find some glass flat squares and under coat with the fabric I find..what would you do?Thanks for your time.I wanted a glossy finish as needs to be cleaned from time to time.
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
+Farmers Granddaughter I am so sorry I just got your message today, I don't normally take this long to respond. Are you looking for the tiny glass squares to put back there or are the larger 4 x 4 tiles going to be in there. The reason I ask is because I do have a video on doing tiles, and I'm wondering if this might help you. There's a product called Triple Thick /it comes in a paint on form -it's clear-or a spray. It's the highest gloss top coat out there unless you were to use a 2 part resin top coat. The 2 part resin requires some practice -you can look up videos here on youtube for that if it interests you. Here's the video on the tiles. kzbin.info/www/bejne/famxn5qjq76JZ68 There is also a page called Mason Jar Madness and Decoupage on Facebook-if you friend them please tell them that I sent you. There are so many helpful people there, you could pose this question to them also.Then you will get a lot of different suggestions. :) Patti

I have some clear plates that I want to decoupage fabric on. While searching how to videos, I happened here on your channel and powered watched your videos for 3 days. I've never decoupaged in my life but am totally addicted to watching YOU decoupage. LOL In my project I am preparing to do, I want to use only a 4' x 4' square of the fabric in center of plate and paint the remaining plate around that. I was worried about how I would keep a clean looking edge of the cotton material I cut. While searching how to's, I saw another person's tutorial (fabric on plates) She said that she mod podged the fabric first and let it dry. Then she cut it. She claimed there is no fraying that way. Just wondering if you have taken this extra step and if it was better or no difference.
@GrandmaSezSo7 жыл бұрын
4 inch x 4 inch squares rather, not feet. That would be one big plate.
@patioelf7 жыл бұрын
Hi Laurie and thank you so much, I loved reading that! That is a great idea to let it dry first...I am usually in a mad rush to get the steps done while I'm making the video. I think it's a better idea to let it dry, then cut it. I tend to have a jagged edge when I cut regardless, so a lot of times I end up using ribbon, twine or jute around the outside if not just some copper tape (like they use for stained glass) around the outsides to cover up my edges. :) Patti

another beautiful project! I'm wondering if you know, what would happen if we put the fabric on the top of the plate? I have a pretty red square plate, similar to your large ones, and I would like to put lace over top of it so the red peeks through. do you think I could get the same effect?
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
+w0rk0fG0d Hi and thank you! One thing you need to be careful about is using lace. I shopped and shopped for cotton lace and it was hard to find. Most laces are heat sensitive and the dishwasher water gets very hot-the lace may shrink or melt. If you're using it just for decoration you could probably do use the lace-I'm guessing you wouldn't be using it for food if you're going to have the lace on it though. You can then just use regular decoupage glue or fabric decoupage glue. :) Patti
@melissa11338 жыл бұрын
+patioelf I was planning on using it as a decorative piece. I found the lace after a yard sale - it was on a very beautiful bassinet that wasn't sold and just sitting on the curb for the trash! It is so lovely but I also don't know how to sew so I'm saving it for a very special project. =D
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
That's great! Don't you love when you find a gem like that? Trash? The people clearly were not crafters. :) I'm so happy you took it in, and I'm with you....I don't sew but there are so many beautiful fabrics out there, like lace that I have to find ways to use. You'll be fine using yours as a decorative piece. :) If you're on Facebook I would love to see what you do. :) Patti

made this yesterday with the kids for father's day put their hand prints on the fabric their daddy loved it thank you :) my only dislike is that the back is rough not smooth any suggestions ? thank you
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
That is the sweetest idea Karen! For the back you can just add a few more layers of the decoupage glue until it feels smooth to you. (you would want to sand it on the final coat-and it won't take as long to dry each coat since it's going to be sitting on top of the prior coat of decoupage glue and not absorbing into the fabric. ) Patti

+patioelf Can you believe I went to JoAnn fabrics to get the dishwasher safe mod podge and I ask one of the employees for help cause I couldn't find it. I told her they have one that is dishwasher safe, (she had no clue) Long story short, they apparently didn't have it which she said they carry ALL of them. So I bought the one with this same color label but it doesn't say dishwasher safe?? They had one with a purple label that said it was for glass but not dishwasher safe, it was a bummer visit to JoAnn fabrics.
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
Irma Brooks I hate when that happens! I have gone into craft stores asking for something, they say they don't carry it, I FIND it then go up to them and say, "Is this the one you don't carry?" LOL I do carry it on my website if you want Irma.I thought that they made the labels color coded depending on which Modpodge you got. If you got the one with the same color label, does that one say dishwasher safe? It might say it on the back. Patti
@FromRVtoCrafts8 жыл бұрын
+patioelf I usually show them I found it also so they at least know they have it. I was thinking maybe the label was mismarked but I got on their web sight and found they had the dishwasher safe one with the same color label. I will probably order it off amazon. Thx Patti.

Maybe if you use several coats over the fabric when you're done, it would be fine. :) Patti

I used this same glue for a glass plate, but it unfolded. I don't know what I did wrong! You also have to spend a lot of glue and still it has not worked for me. 😪

Ohhh, Patti I LOVE this! We are building a new home, and I want new dishes, and now, I'm going to make my own set of shabby chic dishes!! Thank you for this video! It's about time the Mod Podge co. came out with waterproof/diswasher safe glue! This opens up so many possibilities! I can't wait to get the supplies! Where did you purchase the glass plates from? I know places like Wal-Mart have them, but, I really want the square ones, they look easier to work with than the round ones would be. By the way, I sent you a pm. Hugs, and tfs! :)

+TheKnittyGrittyChrocheter83 Hi there! Thank you and I agree with you. It does open up so many possibilities. I don't like keeping things like cereal, pasta or flour in the cardboard containers in the pantry, so I re use the large glass jars to store things in. May as well make them pretty right? How exciting that you are building a new home! I hope you're taking lots of pictures b/c years and years down the road you're going to be fascinated by how your home has grown and where it all began. Oh, I got the plates from Bed Bath and Beyond. They always seem to have the clear square plates. :) Have fun! Patti

Hi, thanx for the vid (and for loving our Downton Abbey!) - my question...can you use PVA instead of Mod Podge? Thanx
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
+sue rowe Hello Sue and yes, we love Downton here in the states! I have been doing decoupage for years and PVA seems to me to have a plastic look to it for the end result, even with a decent top coat it still looks like plastic under the top coat. So I personally don't like it but one viewer gave me a hard time once saying that I was being ridiculous since she uses it all the time. LOL/ So I guess, to each her own. You can try it on a small box and see if you like it. Maybe I'm a little fussy about it? Patti

We love Downton here too but they're not making any more episodes so it's gone for good now, boo hoo! I always use PVA to decoupage but I just wondered about using it on glass - I will give it a go and let you know how it turns out (;o)

thank you Sue. Yes, we will miss Downton! I especially loved the Dowager. She had the best lines! :)
