I demonstrate some ways to make stands for displaying that wood turned bowl or platter you want to show off. Turning it is just the beginning. You want to show it to its best advantage. At the end I have a slide show of some of the bowls and platters I have displayed with the various stands.
Here is a link to the Platter stand plans from thje South Aukland Woodturners Guild sawg.org.nz/sawg/wp-content/u...
I upload a new wood turning tip every Tuesday and a wood turning tutorial video each and every Friday so Ya’ll come back, hear?

Thanks, Mike and Pepper! What a sense of timing you all have. I am in my first show next Tuesday and had no idea how to display my work. I do now! Rick.

Thanks for commenting, Emiliano. When I saw one of Stuart's long, narrow winged bowls held by that one little stick I figured that was the way to go.

Thanks for the tips on making stands. I purchased some very inexpensive plastic stands and found they work for many of my bowls that are less than about 3" deep. I have attempted to make some stands but haven't yet found a shape that works for deeper bowls.

Umm. We have to be creative to keep the squirrels out of the bird feeders. I have no plans to feed the squirrels. Sorry.

I think I like the last display stand best. It detracts from the project the least, and is adaptable to really anything you want to display on an angle like a bowl or platter or even a scrollsaw art piece. Thanks for sharing. Your camera person is adorable. When are we going to see her turning?

Nice work, thanks for sharing. Great job learning to edit videos, I'm still working on that myself. I recently gained access to a Craftsman lathe after years of not having a lathe, but the catch is the chuck is stuck and I need to get it off before using it and I was wondering if you have any tips on that subject? The wrenches that come with the lathe aren't great and slip off under pressure, adjustables don't work, just wondering if you know a thing or two to try. Keep up the good work!

I am working on a video tip for this. If you can find a metal bar that you can extend out from the chuck a ways, perhaps 12" and clamp down on it with the jaws. Then give the end of the bar a good sharp rap with a hammer and it should dislodge. Perhaps even a lflat pry bar. Leverage is the key. You might spray some lock wrench on it first and let it sit.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to try that next time I'm there, in about a week or so. I'm subscribed now, so I'll keep an eye out for future videos on all turning topics. Thanks again!
