Best one yet. Have large grass been trying to cut in half, too big of a job. Found your video and having neighbor chain saw in half after I spent 2 days trying to divide. Thank you

WOW! We're firing on all cylinders today! I just ordered a large clump of Lemongrass. I've tried growing from seed and stalks from grocery store, but to no avail. I live in zone 9, so sun won't be a problem; they might actually need protecting. Going to put mine in container. Thanks much! Going over to watch your 1st video on this now.

So glad to hear that. I grew lemongrass in the greenhouse a few years ago and it's a wonderful plant. I did have success growing it from seed, but it took a long time to germinate and grow. Buying it as a clump is a good idea. Have fun with it.

Does it matter what time of year or at a certain growing process of the grass for when you divide?
@GardenerScott
@GardenerScott 4 жыл бұрын
For most grasses, early spring is the best time, before or just after green begins to appear.

Is there a particular time or season that is best or even avoid?

Dividing in spring is good. Avoid doing it in excessive summer heat.

Should you cut away the dead parts that were in the center?
@GardenerScott

Yes, that helps promote even growth.

Does this split technique work with tall ornamental grass still in the pot from the nursery?
@GardenerScott
@GardenerScott 2 жыл бұрын
Possibly. It depends on the root development and whether there are enough roots to support each division.

Is there a time when it's too soon to divide? I bought some blood grass this year and next year I'd like to cut it half and put it somewhere else as well
@GardenerScott

Not really. Once ground thaws in spring the grass can be divided.

What time of year is best and worst for this project? Fall time good for splitting these up?
@GardenerScott
@GardenerScott Жыл бұрын
Early spring is best and mid summer is worst. Fall splitting may not give enough time for roots to grow before winter cold.

Greetings from a the rainy Front Range! Thank you for your help on this! I immensely enjoyed the fingerpicking on guitar and your calm nature. I agree with others that your voice is so soothing! What temperature is ideal for this method? Does time of day matter? Thanks again!

It works best in spring when temperatures are cool. Dividing and planting in late afternoon allows the plants to establish overnight before the hot sun.

Spring is better when the plant is dormant or just starting to grow.

I have a rather daunting task of removing a very large clump of deer grass from a neighbor's yard, so I can divide it and plant in my garden. The ground is very hard and dry. And the clump is MUCH larger than the one that you showed in the video. Any tips and tricks? It is practically impossible to get it out as one clamp. I'm thinking I'm going to have to hack it first and then dig out smaller clumps.

Dividing into smaller clumps while in the ground can be a good way to deal with a large grass. I've used an axe in those situations. The soil will cause most other blades to dull quickly.

If I simply dig-out the dead center and fill the hole with soil, will it help to rejuvenate the grass?
@GardenerScott
@GardenerScott 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, with the middle gone the edges will grow back into that space.

I bought a zebra plant from gurney it was tiny and looked like 2 twigs from one that already grew and has 3 strings of grass. So looks pathetic and useless. Should I put it in a pot or in my garden and how do I get it to growing width and height? Please help this is my first zebra grass
@GardenerScott
@GardenerScott 2 жыл бұрын
For pathetic plants I order I usually start them in a pot and try to get them growing strong before putting outside. If put directly outside they may not be strong enough to survive bad weather.

Why do these miscanthus grasses die when they are transplanted past the month of may? I moved two of my one year old Miscanthus Graccimilus to a different location in my yard and they both curled and died, even with generous watering and proper soil ammendment

Many plants are stressed by summer transplanting. Spring or autumn are best.
