Hey I'm the third viewer wooot! ....I just started collecting flowering grasses, and I am addicted. I love the infinite variety of color, shape, size, etc. But the most important aspect is probably the hypnotizing motion they exhibit. It's as relaxing as meditation. And yes, I stand there from time to time just staring at the stems as they sway and sashay in the breezes. ...Oh wait, the most important aspect is that they are so low-maintenance. Then again, maybe it's that my neighbors think I'm a gardening genius. Or that they are suddenly jealous of my garden. hmmmmmm...

thank you! i had just purchased pampas grass that was looking very sad - very root bound. i was familiar with cutting the roots off the bottom, but i definitely wouldn't have thought about cutting it down that short. i know winter pruning requires it, but i just needed some confirmation! fingers crossed. thank you again ~

Will just trimming the top work if I do it now? My zebra grass is in a planter so I don't want to move it or dig it up. 😊

Hello! Yes you can trim the dead foliage now. You’ll start to see new growth around June time. If yours is in a planter, I would recommend giving it liquid feed once every two weeks from spring onwards to give it the nutrients it requires to grow into a bigger, healthier plant this year. Thanks for watching 😀

I don't have any grasses in pots, just in the ground. I recently moved here and cut back the grasses, but nothing seems to be growing back. Can I send you a picture?

You should start to see growth in late spring. Though it’s worth remembering, like all plants, grasses have a life cycle. After several years of growth, they will come to an end. If you’re able to send a picture on KZbin then I’ll be happy to review it 👍

Soak them in water for a while then swish away the soil

Next year?

I don't think mine will grow again. I knocked off the roots and shook the dirt. I left a little more on it than you did. But it had zero growth prior to this.

As long as the roots are showing no sign of rot or disease then you should be fine. Though it’s worth keeping in mind that all ornamental grasses have a life-span and if it hasn’t grown recently then it may have reached its end by nature.

I only just planted them last year. Two different types. All of the other grasses inmmy area have 6" shoots already coming out of the ground. These may be gone. I was not able to tell if there was root rot. There were some red roots and some were tangled pretty well at the bootm. None looked rotted to me. I'm not sure why they are not growing.
