How to Divide Leeks for an Endless Supply of Free Plants! I hope you enjoyed this video and found it helpful! Make sure to check out the list of winter leeks below. Thanks for watching and for your continued support! Happy Gardening! 💚 Misilla
Leek (Allium ampeloprasum):
Winter varieties are cold-hardy and can be perennialized. Don't harvest all in the first season and allow at least half to proliferate so you can grow a permanent patch of leeks. Mulch thickly in the fall in cold climates.

Glad to see your video! I grow a ton of leeks and try to leave as many as possible to split later. My husband is allergic to onions but not leeks, so we use that for our cooking. A lot of places either don't sell leeks or sell them for $5/3 leeks, and finding seeds or seedlings can sometimes be hard! Leaving quite a few to split up has been my most consisitent method to make sure we have enough at home to have a few dozen fresh through the year. And we still stick roughly 30-50 leeks in the dehydrator to make powder or flakes.

Lovely - I'll have to try this! I brought Bobington top set Leek bulbils from my old garden and just got them in sprouted and in the ground - love this easy variety, which also forms more at the base!

My husband is allergic to onions. We grow hundreds of leeks to replace the onions in our diet. Very tasty!

I grew leeks to full size and forgot to harvest many last year, and found all those babies. I planted them up a month ago, and I have so many thriving leek plants now. Time to hill up so they can blanch! Thanks for a great video explaining how it all works! Happy gardening!

I'm in FL and I left a bunch of leeks in the ground over the summer of 2021. I am now overflowing with leeks. I had no idea they were perennial and would divide!

You’re welcome! Just make sure the variety you have is hardy to your climate so it will survive the winters. You can also mulch thickly in the fall to protect the roots. Thanks for watching!

By potting paper roll cardboard tubes around the plant it blocks the light and gives you more edible white than green

I grow a lot of them. They're easy to grow but are heavy feeders so add compost in when you replant the babies. Also expect them to die back part of the year. It was disheartening for me until a ton came back later in the season. They're picky on what season they want
