I love the sound of the rooster or chickens in the background, nature's music! I will be dividing most of my ornamentals in spring, like my sedum. This video was very informative, thank you!🌺🌿

I split all my plants too. Sow most of my own seeds to save money. I started to take rose cuttings too and its been really successful.

Thanks so much for this (and all of your videos, which I find so helpful!). I've been saving a lot of seed this year for the first time, but not thought so much about propagation by division. I will now! All good wishes.

A excellent video Tanya and propagation from division is a great idea and why would you buy additional plants from the garden centre when you can get free plants from existing plants.
@Lovelygreens3 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Buying plants is a treat, but using what you have to create new plants is how to expand a garden wisely :) Thanks David

I've had success propagating chocolate mint by cuttings. Basil, too. I recently split up my lemon grass that was growing in one very tight clump. I got four new clumps of lemon grass that are all growing bigger and healthier because the roots aren't all choking each other, and now the stalks have more space to grow larger.

Mint easily roots from cuttings. Either in water or in potting mix :) It's so versatile!

I’d like to propagate my hardy hibiscus and I’m thinking it would be best to try cuttings. Have you any experience with this plant? What do you think is the best way to propagate them? Thanks

MMn sound like a 303 or 3006 but no concern for animals I am concern for you, hunting season is coming soon maybe you should used a big orange vest ( a least where i live)? ....any way , I am new and having fun in the garden but I didnt imagine how expensive can be when you have bad soil like me. thanks for sharing .

Can I propagate salvias as you have done the mint?
@baileycullum23923 жыл бұрын
Dividing the plant by pulling/ wiggling/ teasing rather than cutting will make the roots break at the natural weak points so you don't damage healthy parts. So for the most part that's best but if they are tough to pull apart then you should cut.

Hi, I enjoyed your video, can you separate sage and thyme?
@Lovelygreens Жыл бұрын
Sage and thyme grow as singular plants rather than clump-forming. You can’t divide them, but you can easily propagate both from cuttings.

Do the plants need to be established? About a month ago bought a mint plant from the store and put it in a small pot. it's growing pretty well for so early in the season, but I'd like to put it in a larger pot and am considering dividing it instead of buying a second plant. If I did that in the next couple of weeks would that be too soon?

You can BUT parsley is a biennial. It will always die in it's second year, even if divided.

How would I propagate thornless blackberries ? And what is the best way to propigate hydrangeas in a cold climate , without a greenhouse?
@Lovelygreens3 жыл бұрын
Thornless blackberries will grow from cuttings but also by layering. Pin a vine to the ground and it will grow roots on the underside.
