FYI. After you take out the 3 torxs screws to remove the bottom cover, you can unbolt 7 screws and remove the blower motor from the bottom and replace it. No need to pull the whole dash apart. Took me about 20 mins. Just finished it.

You forgot the part where you have to slither into the footwell on your back like a snake and break both shoulders trying to get at the screws

Thanks for posting the video. Just finished the fan install. Piece of cake with your video and $1000 less than the stealership on the last one.

This is my second time doing this, the screws to unscrew are not obvious and some are identical but not necessary to remove for this job. I ended up doing it upside down with my feet planted against the roof. I needed a pad to protect myself from the seat rail...ouch! I don't know how people do it without the contortionist act.

In Australia these blowers are $950 from the dealer. $300 second hand. After watching your video l removed the blower. The casing covering the blower motor is removable. 6 or 7 plastic tabs. I blew the motor out with compressed air, ALOT of dust came out, put the casing back on and reinstalled the blower, cleaned the electrical connector pins and the blower worked. Maybe l got lucky, but never the less, there you go.

Nice of you to go through all that. One suggestion I have for people is before you start replacing the blower motor unless you know it's bad I would go ahead and replace the cabin and filter first. Most people don't even know they have one and if it's been clogged up for 10 years you're not going to get much air and they're only about $15. At the very least do it at the same time since they're in the same place.

That is a great point! I knew mine was dead because with the fan turned all the way to max it didn't move any air.

THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO!! I've done this fan replacement on a Gen 1 Touareg and it's very different on this model. There were 5 screws holding the housing on, then I had two screws holding the motor in - your motor seemed to drop right out and I'm not sure if you skipped the step of removing the motor mounting screws. One tip ... The screws on the right of the housing are tight against the floor molding and behind a thick wire bundle, so there isn't much room to snake the socket extension up in there. When I got the last screw off and was pulling the extension driver out it caught on the wire bundle, popped the driver bit off, and it fell behind the molding and in back of (and dropped down and under) the carpet. I had to pop the trim off and dig under the carpet to retrieve it. Next time I'll use electrical tape and tape the sockets onto the extender so that they don't come off (I do this on the boat because if they pop off they are lost in the bilge).

With the gen 2 /3 the fan and motor are an assembly. No need to take them apart. Thanks for watching and for the advice. Hopefully the gen 1 owners read comments :)

I think that my Gen 1 2004 Toureg's A/C needs a new blower motor as well. This vid seems pretty str8 forward. It is very helpful as well as David Allen's comments and brilliant suggestion. Thank you.

I have a 2004 Touareg and the first panel has 3 clips (no torx screws). Use a small flathead screw driver to pop the front lip below the glovebox. Removing glovebox is not required at all. My socket set did not have a 5.5mm (only a 5mm and 6mm). Doing the math, 5.5mm / 25.4 mm/in = 0.2165"....the 7/32 (0.2188") socket fits without being sloppy and works fine for this low torque project. I saw on a VW Touareg forum a tip that I used: When installing the new blower motor, seat / partially screw in, the two deeper, more difficult screws first - the alignment is difficult. This step isn't for the impatient. There's also a thin plastic seam that needs to be aligned. Couple other tips: Do this project in the shade...sun glaring down into your eyes when you're upside-down staring into a tiny dark cavity will make the two most difficult screws even harder. If you wear reading glasses, the two difficult screws will challenge you even more. The deep screw closest to the passenger door is very difficult to find and align. This project took me just under an hour.

2012 Touareg Diesel - AC wouldn't kick on. I would keep trying it and finally it would work but the next time i started the truck it would not. It finally stopped working all together but after this video and a new blower $89 and 15 mins later - I'm freezing once again
