That’s the way I did mine. Except I used an air compressor and stood on them. I have lowered 2 mk7’s. One pulling the axle out and one pulling the whole knuckle with the strut attached. Easier the 2nd way.
@Commonginger6 жыл бұрын
David Heether so instead of taking out the axle you left it attached to the lower control arm and dropped it from the strut tower?

the mk7 golf SportWagen uses a 21" socket on top of the strut mount. I successfully used a spark plug socket w/ 7mm hex to remove my strut tops.
@brucewayne23974 жыл бұрын
I didnt remove half this stuff.. plank of wood with a whole with a bolt through the strut then Jack it up and the shock will rise from the loosened knuckle..easy work with no driveshaft or ball joint removal
@navindralr7 жыл бұрын
lol love that you shit on the haters regarding the spring compressor
@Haydenbacon3067 жыл бұрын
Navindra Ramharack lol same. I haven't used a compressor on a gti or a R. Springs are short on them anyway. However on the regular golf I would recommend it lol those springs are long as hell
@chrisp48994 жыл бұрын
You could put the spring compressors on and compress the old spring/shock on removal to save removing the ball joint and driveshaft
@AaronHalpin4 жыл бұрын
So you are saying to use the spring compressors to compress the shock after loosening the pinch bolt instead of removing the driveshaft?

Heya bud, thx for the vid! I have just done mine, but I am hearing a weird sound on the drive shaft. Is there a certain way is fits back on? Somethings not right. The drivers side drive shaft was a bugga to get to because its further away. Then I realized it's easier to access from under neath.

This is a perfect video on not how you install lowered springs your self unless your a cowboy that dosnt care how your vehicle handles after and want to cause more damage and your self more money. And your vehicle will need geometry after installing lowered spring plus your head lamp aim will be out too low 😫😫
@MatArmstrongbmx3 жыл бұрын
No damage was caused at all. Wheel alignment was done afterwards. Headlight lamp is perfectly fine as there is a level sensor on the wishbone which automatically adjust due to the ride height. It’s 4 years later since I filmed the video and the chap still has the car and drives fine. Thanks for your comment though ✌️

Just compress the spring using clamps while on the car and then the shock will unbolt and slip straight out once undone from the strut 🤦♂️ Don’t need to do anything else.
@MatArmstrongbmx4 жыл бұрын
Unless you have real some spring clamps it's impossible to fit them in there
@ryanmcqueen69094 жыл бұрын
Mat Armstrong true but you can also put the jack on the lower control arm and start jacking it up and it will compress the spring and then use heavy duty metal cable zip ties around the spring, then let the jack down. The spring will stay compressed. Ghetto but it works.

Why does EVERY single video say what brand they're using! but NOT bothering to mention how low they're taking it 🤷🏿♂️... most of us are here because want to see examples of specific ride heights... not what bolts to turn or what brand you're endorsing. 🙂 not even a mention in the description box
