Awesome video, clear, concise and great ideas on what to do afterwards. I’m still waiting for the interview video of your mom and what happens when you stick your fingers together.

Well done! I'm so thankful you're making these videos. It's super helpful watching you progress... I have the exact same van and I've hesitated knowing I have to tackle the airbags, AC ducts, and MaxxAire fan but I'm just about ready to dig in. Lol. Keep up the great work!!

Thanks for watching! It's intimidating trying things I haven't done yet, but so rewarding when it's done. About to put out diesel heater video showing how to tap into diesel tank without dropping the tank all the way down. Also going to put up a video on how to keep the airbags in and build around them.

Very simple and appears to work well. Over time, have you noticed any flaws? And airless or loosening due to temperature swings or movement of the van? Very simple and appears to work well. It’s been working great for over a year now. No problems with reduction in airflow. The only thing I recommend instead of using duct tape would be to use the silver metallic tape used for sealing ducts. It’s supposedly would last longer. I got that tip from another viewer.
@Jerenemy Жыл бұрын
@Chillie Excellent! [Thank you for the fast response]. I challenge that commenters suggest. I have that metallic tape and have actually used it on seams for that metallic bubble wrap insulation-type material (I forget what it's called). It's been a week and I see it starting to pull up in spots. That being said, it is pulling up in spots with a little more movement. I'll try to come up with something more durable in for that portion and let you know. Beyond that, I'm going to copy your design. Thanks again, man. I think you've saved me a lot of time & money testing out different ideas.

@@Jerenemy I’m glad I could help. Yeah let me know how it works for you. I used a really strong duct tape and haven’t had any problems.
@nomarsnop7 ай бұрын
I have doubts about any improvement here reducing the size of the ducts. Theorically the airflow is the same, as it's controlled by the blower motor. So I can't see how this can improve the cooling capabilities.

Any ideas on something other than the thinsulate to cover the remaining of the opening?? I'm actually doing this in a minivan with an even smaller opening, I can't find anywhere that will sell me that little amount of the insulation

Is there a reason to use the elbow piece at the end of the duct? Why not just use the duct tube material since it bends? Thanks. Love this idea for my ac!
@ChilliesWorld Жыл бұрын
I use the elbow so it has maximum airflow. Once you’ve bend the tube, it closes off some of the airflow

Thx you for making a beautiful work on the passenger van. Where do you buy the polywall? Does home depo carry it? Do you plan to build a shower inside the van? Can you make video of completing the bedliner with polywall?
@ChilliesWorld2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! You can get the poly wall at Home Depot its called "White Polywall Plastic Panel" I plan on having a shower but it will be modular set up. I'll share that as well. Bedliner? Do you mean the headliner cabinet area?

I neednto do this as my dogs are too hot in the summer as the first crate is freezing hogging that ac where it blows out in the cargo van and the rest suffer. What do you think about using 2 or 2.5" instead of 3. Three really sticks out.
@ChilliesWorld3 ай бұрын
I went with 3 inch because that's the smallest size duct work and vents I could find. 2 inch may be too small. How many crates do you need to get air to?
@realMDizzy2 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting AC solution, I wonder if you can buy that separately. I like how it is down low vs being mounted on the roof.
@ChilliesWorld2 жыл бұрын
Ford might sell it as a replacement. But then you would need to add AC lines, power , and then recharge the system. And it all runs off the van.
@granitfog2 жыл бұрын
Nice video. Is it true the rear ac can only be powered when the engine is running?
@ChilliesWorld2 жыл бұрын
That is correct . . . unfortunately. Wish there was a way to run it without the engine.
@peterw.38163 ай бұрын
You call the unit in the rear "the AC". However I believe that it is only a blower fan which disperses heat or cold from the engine's coolant system or front AC compressor? So, this is prob why the rear unit cannot be run without the engine on.

Is there a reason you chose duct tape over aluminum foil?
@ChilliesWorldАй бұрын
It's what I had on hand but I've heard the metal foil tape works better.

The 3 inch vent slows the flow compared to the much larger plastic riser. There is a reason for the size of the riser and this likely reduces the flow of air. Don’t reduce the duct riser. Keep it about the same or larger.
@ChilliesWorld Жыл бұрын
The reason I went with 3” hose is because you can fit it into the wall of the van. 4” doesn’t fit and anything larger would have to be put on the outside of the wall. After installing the 3 inch lines and 3 vents, I can honestly say it blows harder and farther than the 10 vents Ford installed. Ford didn’t even seal all the cracks and gaps in the vents so it’s not very efficient. And it’s not blowing in areas where I don’t need it anymore.
@peterw.38163 ай бұрын
@@ChilliesWorld It was smart making the vents much shorter than Ford did inside the hotter upper reaches of the van. Your design gets the cold air out into the interior much quicker where it's needed, not running through 20 feet of uninsulated and unsealed ducting. Take note Ford.

Chillie, I’m so glad I’ve come across your channel. I’m in the UK and have just started a conversion on a 2017 Minibus myself. I have a decision to make about the AC Unit under the passenger front seat. This provides air to vents in the rear floor. The unit is going to make providing a swivelling seat difficult so may have to go. Does your van have this too? Seeing the airflow you get from your roof vents, I think just the rear unit is enough. Any thoughts?
@ChilliesWorld2 жыл бұрын
Hey Neil! I don't have AC under the passenger seat but I do have heat that went through the floor vents. The rear unit is AC that I rerouted up into the upper cabinets. I installed a diesel heater in mine, so I could remove the heater ducts from under the passenger seat, if I wanted to try and install swivel seats. Are you sure its AC under the seat? Cool air falls and warm air rises, so I would check the air coming out the vent first. It may be heat. This might affect your decision. Let me know what happens.
@nbuckner19672 жыл бұрын
Chillie, so I’ve done some tests with the vehicle running. When I start the vehicle and adjust the overhead temperature controller, cold starts the rear ac unit and warm starts the under seat unit. When you put it into a middle setting both units run…. Thanks for your reply.
