I asked my boat mechanic over 30 years of service. How he winterize boat motors. First thing he said don't fog he said he has saw it do more harm to motors then help. Said just run gas out or run good stabilizer through motor change lower unit oil. That's all he does has less issues. Just don't fog it.

You can ask 10 people and they will all guve you different answers. And they are all right. Do what you do. I will continue fogging mine. I cant believe a Mechanic would say fogging does more harm than good on a 2 stroke 🤣

This is a great video. New boat owner here and I just called and asked how much this would cost me and was quoted $460 plus labor on top of that price. I seen other videos where people are flushing with anti freeze. What is the purpose of them doing that over the way you do it?
@mudbrats
@mudbrats 2 жыл бұрын
if its an I/O inboard outboard, you need to flush with antifreeze. With an outboard like mine, as long as the motor is stored trim full down witb motor vertical, it will drain empty - no water means no risk of freezing

Do you have to put marine STA-BIL in the gas tank and let it run for a few to circulate. Then for carburetor then do cylinders then marine gear lube lower unit. ? Just wondering?
@mudbrats
@mudbrats 3 жыл бұрын
i dont use Sta-Bil - i ise Star Tron and run it all season as it helps with fuel stabilization, water/condensation in fuel, and the effects of ethanol. If u are just adding during winterization, yes run the engine to circulate through fuel system

Do you do anything like anti-freeze for the water intake?
@mudbrats
@mudbrats 5 жыл бұрын
Not on an outboard. As long as you store it with the outboard completely down (not tilted), the water system drains by gravity on an outboard. On an I/O you need to antifreeze the water lines

Question, when u first start up the engine cold, is there other of water that's suppose to flow through the engine or does it have a thermostat like a car and only flows fast when it's warm?? When I start mine, water comes out but like a little steam. I only ran like 2 minutes on and off. Never dealt with marine engines before so I kinda feel uncomfortable leaving it running out of the water. Thx for any input.

Your EPA approved oil catch pan made me laugh. Do you think you really need to remove the plugs and spray more oil in each cylinder after you stalled the engine with the fogging oil? I am not saying you don't need to I was just wondering. Thinking of buying a boat this weekend and I haven't been around boats sense I was young. I grew up with boats but got kind of burned out on them, the old lady never really was interested but I am getting the bug again. Anyway thanks for sharing your video.

How can you tell if it is or not?
@mudbrats
@mudbrats 4 жыл бұрын
@@oscarestrada7028 By sound - Four strokes have a smooth deep growl sound - like a car or a street bike or lawn mower. Two Strokes have a Ring-Ding-Ding-Sound like a Dirt Bike or weed eater/leaf blower. By looks - 2 Stokes are more compact looking - plugs are usually on top of each cylinder, 4 strokes usually look bulky and have Cam shafts and valve bodies on top of each cylinder. Also 2 Stokes will either be mixed gas and oil or have a separate oil tank for the oil. Four Strokes will have the oil pour right into the engine and like your car does. I hope this explanation makes sense. If any other viewers have anything to add to this, please comment below
