90s DJ here. Frantically searching crates of vinyls for the next track. Back in my day there was no looping. Pure adrenaline rush. Learning a lot from Alice. Thanks 👍

Great lesson, I remember playing a gig one night and the venue owner asked me to let another DJ on the decks to play a few tracks, told me he was a great DJ. When he got on the decks he spent so much time looking for a track that he wasn't paying attention to the track playing coming to the end. I tried to explain to him but he told me he knew what he was doing and didn't need any help. I went to the bar for a drink and waited for the silence. And when the silence came, OMG was he embarrassed. For any young DJ's out there, watch these lessons and learn. Don't be a know it all and don't be cocky, the last thing you want is to be standing there in the silence looking like headless chicken.
@brabazone19724 жыл бұрын
@Digital MarketiiingNot too far off, he was a really close friend of the owner. Every weekend he would spend hours talking into the owners ear. Far too arrogant and certainly far too cocky for a guy with no experience. All he had to do was listen and learn and he would prob been playing fine. Could have even got a few gigs out of it but he blew his chance.
@DJTide4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't have even bothered letting him know, I've done that and been blamed that I "distracted" him. Sometimes these cocky DJs gotta learn the hard way.

Thank you sm for this !! A few ideas for the next video: 1) How to use effects 2) More in-depth on EQ's 3) Scratching basics 4) Mixing two different genres (maybe rap into dubstep or house?) 5) More on using the loop button to transition or just to add to songs 6) Out of curiosity- How do you go about making a mix? Do you practice what you will play before or just have a list of songs that you like and know well enough to choose from and freestyle from that?

First of all, you are such a sweetheart for taking your time out to share your gift. You are one of my favorite artists! Providing that I would have been well enough, I was going to be able to see you at Redrock. My Daughter lives in Denver and like me, a big fan. You remind me of her, she is also a musician, but you are so much alike in the fact that you are so down to earth and just play your music being your authentic selves. If I'm better next year, I'll be there to see you!! Love ya Allison ❤

Is there another Pioneer DJ controller you recommend we practice on, or do you think we should just keep using our existing controller and save up to buy the CDJs?

Thats fine in the beginning when you're learning, but the real fun is when you play on the fly. Also its hard to adjust your energy level if a pre-planned set isn't vibing with the crowd.

Hey thanks for making these tutorials! I literally just got my first DJ controller tonight and just have no idea where to start! lol. I've been producing music in Ableton for almost 2 years now and it's all I care about. But I thought it might be a good idea to start learning how to DJ as well. I definitely want to create my live performance sets of my music with Ableton's arrangement view and do live instrumentation or something. But DJing looks fun as hell. And it seems like an awesome outlet to focus on during times of writers block or just times when you want to step away from production (which isn't often) But anyway, thanks for making these. I now have a place to start with this and your personality also makes this very enjoyable!

A really great way to learn, and I believe alison mentioned this in her first video, is to use one song on both decks, this makes it really easy to beatmatch and transition since it's the same song.
