This was an absolutely beautiful and much simpler set up than I was Taught. I was taught to pull back to the 12'clock position after the 3'clock, which is similar, but your method of stopping when the tractor and trailer are aligned with each other is so much easier, especially with that extra 8 feet to work with coming back. Today is my final day with my trainer and I'll be testing and graduating today after I pass everything at the company. Im so excited for this journey and I appreciate this tutorial as it will definitely help me achieve my goal......AKA (Get Out And Look)😂 naa, but many thanks to you my brother and keep up the amazing work 🙏🏿

Great info. I am trying to learn how to park my 5th wheel 30 foot camper. It surely isn't as long as your TT. Any hints...appreciated. TIA
@18WMS5 ай бұрын
I love campers. The key to shorter trailers is that they come around fast. Therefore, turning the steering wheel a little to get the trailer started, then turning back the other way to control it. May have to pull forward a few times to stay in control of the trailer swing. The shorter the trailer is, the faster the trailer swings. I hope this helps at least a little. I wish you the best!
@chrisstockwell92355 ай бұрын
Don't watch your trl watch your trl tires that is your pivot point, setup is the most important part, don't cut yourself short use as much space as you need to setup and get out and look as many times as you need not just to look at clearance look at the angle of trk and trl compared to where your backing into and remember if your using a spotter trust but verify if you hit something they aren't going to pay your deductible.
@18WMS5 ай бұрын
@chrisstockwell9235 great advice. Watching the tires is also important, but watching everything is important, especially when there is a big portion of the trailer beyond the tires. I have a travel trailer myself. Different from a tractor trailer but similar. Please stay safe!

Great video. What’s the ideal spot to begin your 3 o’clock turn?
@18WMS8 ай бұрын
Great question. The three oklock starts when your shoulder is in line with the edge of the trailer by the driver side mirror. This is the first turn of the set up.
@drrichardpaul3 жыл бұрын
That's okay, but the hard turn to the left is easier if you go all the way back to 12 o'clock instead of 1:30. The maneuver sets you up for success this way without having to pull up the additional 8 feet. Sometimes, you don't have that space available, so it's better to teach the 12-3-12 method.
@18WMS3 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard and thanks for your comment and input. I do agree that it all depends on the situation at hand. The way I'm showing this in the video never failed fo me. A driver must survey the area and setup accordingly. Thanks and please continue to stay safe.

Thanks I’m a rookie driver with no trucking school no experience it worked good but what if you have very little room in front what do you do then ???
@18WMS3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jrock! Great question. On all backing opportunities, it's best to look at everything first to determine what to do next. If there's not much room in front of the space you're backing then a couple of options are: Do a 90 degree back or maybe slide the tandems all the way forward (but be mindful of the tail swing). Once the trailer is in the space and you need to pull up, you will have plenty extra room then. Thanks for the question and please stay safe.

☂️Thank you for this excellent video. Would you be willing to do another 45 degree one? Same setup but tighter with typical empty trailers on the other right hand side. Because lot of times it feels like you might hit the other side because its so tight. This video doesn't show if it was tighter on the other side. So if you can demonstrate and explain the proper setup like this one backing between trailers. Also I had one small truck like that before but lost the trailer they can be useful.

@moneycf no worries, we go into the fine detail via video. I offer educational sessions if you're interested. You can email me at tyoung.18wms@gmail.com or set up a session with this link. Thanks. maps.app.goo.gl/nQ2E6MzRUcRthfbV7

@@moneycf once your tractor is pointed at the 3 oclock position, immediately crank it back to 12, until your tractor is straight, with your wheels straight, you proceed back,keeping your wheel straight, the trailer will begin to turn, while your tractor wheels are kept straight..

@craigslistrro709 that's another option. You will have to pull up more depending on the available space.

@18WMS3 жыл бұрын
Hi Valentin, 45 and parallel require different set ups. What did you end up doing?
@valentinsanchez9603 жыл бұрын
It jackknife but I had to do one pull up

@@valentinsanchez960 I hope it didn't jack to the point of damage and I'm glad you are done with that situation.

What about 90 degree backing?
@18WMS2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeahwang, I hope you are doing well and thank you for your comment. I plan on doing a video on the 90 degree soon. The set up and execution is different but interesting depending on the space. Have a safe day.

I need help on blind side backing
@18WMS6 ай бұрын
Blind side backing is very risky depending on the equipment and area. I can help you with it, though. Please inbox me at tyoung.18wms@gmail.com Thanks, and I wish you the best.

@@18WMS Do truckers avoid blind side backing if they can help it?
@18WMS6 ай бұрын
Yes, unless they have a spotter. Even then, backing from the driver side is most likely a safer way. I hope this helps. Please stay safe!
