Hi. This is Sergio from Skatefresh Team. You need at least 135 degree opening, if it's not possible then the 2-foot transition will be better for you than this. The 2-foot transition is explained here kzbin.info/www/bejne/aanYeYOKadaVh6c It's the first one that appeared in that video. To start practicing the pivot you can hold a handrail just in case.

Asha, the way you demonstrate is excellent approach, especially showing wrong vs right way, after watchig your mohawk transitions demo, i finally "got it" before that i couldnt change direction, got all twisted up and thought a jump turns was the way.. and you showing the wrong way was exACtly what i was doing wrong. also i love the leggings; -i have a question about form : I must have a genetic fault as in ballet had same prob -impossible to point toes in opposite directions, (or mohawk position for skates_ could this be corrected ? any tips ? could it be my flat feet ( ankles roll foot inwards )or is this a hip position issue? i guess the easiest way to explain is when laying down, at rest my feet point towards each other as in pigeon toes. and my mohawk is never a 180 more of a v position
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 8 жыл бұрын
+Jake Mom There are MANY people (myself included) who cannot ge their feet 180 turned out heel-to-heel (despite the amount of yoga I do). However it isn't necessary. The minimum turn out should be about 135 degrees (halfway between 90 degrees and 180). This is achievable y most people, but try it. Then the stepping mohair is possible as the skate landing backwards just rolls out into the straight line. But to make it easier to transition with poor flexibility, the solution is to do the stepped transition but with a little 'Hop' onto the backwards skate and then quickly after the other skate joins in a backwards scissor. This is actually the transition I do ALWAYS especially at speed. See any of my backwards skating videos and I use the jumped mohawk all the time as its safer at higher speeds (as then you'll never have both skates on the ground in that heel-to-heel position). You must of course bend the knees well on landing this scissor with weight on the ablest of the feet. Hope this helps and makes sense. let me know. I’d like to share with you my new Online Skate School at www.skatefresh.com where I am giving away lots more free instructional content starting with a 40 page FREE E-Book.The book is available if you sign up at www.skatefresh.com.

Very slowly is exactly how you're supposed to get it. Speed on transitions just paralyses the body. Get fluent with the move slowly and then very slowly over time work on increasing the speed. Well done!

Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. The secret is the upper body rotation, including the arms. This is a transition that comes from figure skating, though they hardly ever do it in a straight line.

Nice video. It looks like when you do a forwards to backwards Mohawk transition, you have your arms fixed while your lower body rotates. But when you do the backwards to forward your arms rotate with your lower body. Don't you risk over rotating when you seeing your arms like that? I'm working on both forward to backwards (not so good yet) and backwards to forward (pretty decent). Haven't thought too much about the arms though.
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 4 жыл бұрын
Well spotted yes I've developed a different entry for both those transitions but actually they are more similar in that I'm wanting skaters to have their arms and support body fully rotated BEFORE they then move their feet in the transition. The difference is that the F/B i perorate the arms and torso in the prep position and then ask skaters to move their skates/lower body without changing the torso position. For the B/F there is simply no 'pause' moment and the arm rotation moves smoothly into stepping the feet to forwards. SO although they look different the only difference is actually the presence or absence of the pause in the rotation. But the rotation is there with both. Without peroration, transitions can get very troublesome and resist the addition of speed and create 'freak out' moments when the body just doesn't want to do it. This means something is missing in the technique and it's best to film yourself and see if you can spot what you are doing wrong. This short B/F video isn't a full tutorial and lacks several of the stages i use to teach this skill and other transitions to people in class. Ive made this full lesson available in an Online Course if you are interested. It's in the "How to Skate" course - Intermediate level. There's a Free Trial lesson from that course you can have immediate access to to check out what I mean by a higher level of quality and content than anything on here. Click Free Trial here; inlineskatecourse.com/how-to-skate-intermediate/

@maloneycraig 4 жыл бұрын
@@SkatefreshVideos Right on. Thanks for the clarification! I'm pretty confident now on the F-to-B and I'm always pre-rotating to do it (watched enough KZbin and everybody pre-rotates the upper body for F-to-B jumps and mohawk transitions). For B-to-F I am already comfortable enough that I can even hold coffee like Leon Basin ;)

Is there a difference with doing this with 3 wheels? I notice your skates have 4. Just wondering. Also wondering if these types of turns are easier with 4 wheels.
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 6 жыл бұрын
Bigger wheels are faster and hold their speed longer. Smaller wheels are sower but much more manoeuvrable on turns, footwork, transitions etc. Most things are 'easier' t learn on 4 smaller wheels 80mm average. 3 bigw heels takes some getting used to if you are used to 4 but beginners can also learn on 3 wheels as they don't know any different. All skaters should focus on mastering stopping before they get too fast. On ay number of wheels thats the biggest challenge. Let me help you more. Only for ONE reason. You are going too fast for your body. Do it very, very VERY slowly, Like less than walking speed. Only if your body is relaxed will it work and only very slowly will your body be relaxed. Also end your knees and change weight immediately from one kate to the other (no 50/50 moment). Good luck.
