Something like, work on priorities of technique and the basics, before looking good and wanting to dance on skates?

Great idea to use the chalk to see your tracing. I'm forever staring at my tracings in ice to check the entry and exit curves are symmetrical and the edges are clean. On wheels I sometimes use puddles to wet my wheels just enough to see the marks I've made.

33 years ago is correct! Even I can't believe it. Everything in this city makes me feel nostalgic (and as if I'm still a teenager)..... I'm so fortunate to have learned Portuguese so long ago and had such a life changing year here in Salvador.

That's sweet. There's a lot of noise on KZbin now and it's harder and harder to get the views compared to 5 or even 10 years ago. But I hope I reach the people who need my help.

Let us know how it goes, but I highly recommend you sign up for the full tutorial as it provides ALL the info you need to learn this move safely with bite-sized progressions. The test is whether you can do the transition and the back crossover by lifting your feet, rather than keeping both skates on the ground throughout. That's the usual issue new Barrel Rollers face when trying to to just copy the final result. I'm curious how it goes for you. Enjoy your carpark!
@Reloaded443 күн бұрын
@SkatefreshVideos I actually signed up last night TBH I need a proper front-to-back transition so I probably won't be able to really do a barrel roll but it's on the list of things to learn now. If I wanted to work on transition which of your courses would you recommend for me? I can skate backwards but pretty slow and with minimal turning FYI. 💚

Will you be doing more group lessons when you come to Miami this year?
@SkatefreshVideos3 күн бұрын
Yes I will! I'm just waiting for the event organisers to publish the route timetable and then I can schedule the classes. Anything in particular you'd like to have offered? Definitely doing Stops of some kind....
@mrbuttercup373 күн бұрын
@SkatefreshVideos Awesome! Just stops would be helpful for me. I missed that one last year. Also maybe some spins or forward to backward transitions.

Hello Asha, Do you have any video about how often do you change bearings? Some of meins ( 608ZZ ) get worn out in around 20 hours of skating. Not all, but just random. Im thinking is it normal or I use bad quality bearings 608ZZ . Thank you.
@pavelbuchnevich12294 күн бұрын
You shouldn't have to change your bearings very often if you do simple maintenance on them. After a few use of your skates, take the wheels out and clean the dirt off the bearings. If your bearings are no longer spinning freely, you can re-grease them by removing the side covers. But first, you will have to remove the dirt and the old grease. You can get a complete cleaning kit at most skating shops or on Amazon that comes with new bearing grease. I have kept the same bearings going for years by just cleaning the dirt off the bearings every week and re-grease the bearings every 3-4 months.
@SkatefreshVideos3 күн бұрын
I totally agree with the replay below from @pavelbuchnevish1229....but I don't have any equipment maintenance videos as this topic is covered brilliantly by many other KZbinrs. Watch a few "How to clean bearings" videos and you'll get the idea. Mine last at least 6 months or longer if I don't get them wet..... but that's the biggest challenge living in the UK.
@goodwill76433 күн бұрын
OK, I see, currently we have winter season with lots of dirt and looks like I should clean them up almost every traing. Good to know. Thank you for feedback :)

Great to see you back in Brazil. You may have heard that the UK has been somewhat wet and blustery of late. Enjoy the sun and hope you love every minute of your time there.

This visit feels particularly lucky having got through 4.5 winters in the UK since the pandemic without any Brazil. I hadn't realised how much I needed to be here and am so grateful to my friends here for having me. Thanks for your kind wishes.

ok I'm dizzy now
@SkatefreshVideos3 күн бұрын
Yes continuous transitions can have this effect BUT the Barrel roll has 2 things going on, the turning direction of the transitions and the large circle you are transitioning around. These are not both going in the same direction so at least thats less dizzying than it could be. What I mean is for example during the first demo, I'm rotation clockwise but skating anti-clockwise around the circle. This is the part that's often difficult to figure out alone and why following the full tutorial will really help.

Checking in from Atlanta, Ga!!!I’m currently taking your advanced course and this is one of the moves I’m learning!! Thank you so much!
@SkatefreshVideos3 күн бұрын
That's awesome you are at the Advanced course level, well done. You have an advantage with the course in the form of the "Secrets to backwards skating" chapter, which is the place to focus your efforts. Use that lesson as the basis of your warm up and practice those 4 positions before you then tackle any of the course content. Without them, anything involving backwards will feel super challenging. Keep going with it and practice as if I'm watching ;)

hi asha. how's your hip injury? can you soul slide yet?
@SkatefreshVideos3 күн бұрын
My hip is doing really well thanks (and touch wood). I'm hoping to just keep going and delay surgery as long as possible, so far I've done that for 10 years and have no pain so I'm super grateful. I have never been able to soul slide due to the reduced flexibility I have in the injured hip, but I have good success teaching it to students who do have the flexibility, as I can demo all the progressions and correct the mistakes. Thanks for your concern.
