Hey there! 🎥 First of all, thanks for the great video! 👍 I really enjoyed it. However, I've noticed that when I try to do the magic slide, it automatically becomes a power slide. 😕 Can you please help me out and let me know what the problem might be
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos Сағат бұрын
Are you entering the Magic slide from the Soul slide as indicated in this video? If yes, then you are creating the powerslide by 'flipping' the skate that will become the trailing leg in the magic slide (so not the leading leg) too far around from forwards to backwards, so you're flipping it 180 degrees so it then rolls backwards and that's the powerslide. You need instead to flip it by just 90 degrees so it rolls from forwards to sideways. The difficulty is that the magic slide is so much harder than the powerslide that the body will want to choose that easier option. 2 skates sliding is 1000x more challenging than just 1 skate sliding, 1 skate rolling. So you need to build up to this very slowly by doing this flipping movement right at the end of the soul slide when you've almost stopped. The body will be more likely to accept this if there isn't a load of speed. Once you have a tiny "baby slide" of a few kms you can then slowly work at increasing the speed very very very slowly. Hope this makes sense. Good luck.

Begginer here (1 week). I think begginers tend to use V because it is stable. You always fall on your opposite leg, so you can be kind of relax. If you try to keep you straigt, you have a risk to fall outside where you don't have any support. In a beggining legs are not strong and it is hard to keep one leg balance, but in V shape you simply standing, doesnt matter how strong your legs are and how good you on keeping balance. But it is good to know, that for beginning its fine, but in future legs should be upright.

Yes the pizza V shape is fine and very suitable for beginners while they build their confidence and response to acceleration (whcih V-ing will produce). But you wouldn't believe what a high % of the intermediate skating population are still V-ing when they're cruising or maintaining speed, and that's who this video is aimed at because skating with a V later on when youre a higher level will reduce your ability to glide, increase the potential to be pronated on inside edges which looks ugly and kills your ankles and basically just isn't good proper skating. Knowing this early will help you later on I hope. A way to train not making this V a future habit is to use the free drills I have available on my website which if used regularly will stop you making V-skating a habit. Just click free trial on these 2 pages for a total of 5 free stride drills. skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-for-fitness-beginner-level-full-course/ skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-for-fitness-intermediate-level-full-course/ Enjoy! To become a proficient skater I think you need to understand that skating is a VERY technical sport and so learning the correct techniques is essential and will save you a lot of time. I recommend you start on my website where I offer free vide lessons which contain full progression sequences for amore thorough understanding. On KZbin I just give quick tips and summaries, so not my best work. Go to Skatefresh.com and go to "Learn Online". Each video course I offer has some free trial you can use. These are the best place to start and you can have access to them straight away and begin training correctly. Start with these 2 and click "Free trial" on those pages and start training. skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-beginner-level-full-course/ skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-for-fitness-intermediate-level-full-course/ Let us know how you get on with these. best place to start.

They are a whole different level of teaching and progression, mapping out weeks of your practice in a way that ensures you get each skill safely. You can test out each course absolutely free by clicking on 'Free Trial' and seeing for yourself. There's 2 courses for beginners you could start using straight away. @SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos Сағат бұрын
They are both the same, neither is "easier". It just depends on which kind of skating you want to do more of. Do you want to focus on dancing, skating indoors and staying on smooth surfaces? Then roller skates are best. If you want to skate distances for fitness and recreation outside on variable surfaces then inlines are better. Wheels are wheels and they each demand the correct technique. Roller skates are unstable front and back. Inline skates are unstable side to side. To create stability you need to do the correct techniques in both skates.

A question... Why are your guysis skates so loose they are barely hanging on? I read that I need to tighten mine quite a lot..
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 7 күн бұрын
I always recommend skaters tighten their ankle straps properly so that they support you better, but Lukas obviously likes his looser. However, there are moments when he overbalances on the outside edge showing that he needs to make a lot of adjustments with his body to balance.....this would be easier if he tightened his top strap. Many higher level skaters in my opinion don't do up their skates in the best way to support them, so don't copy that!

Sorry you're having this challenge but it's a very common issue when having ti buy online and being unable to try boots on beforehand. Can I ask you about the foot pain you had in the size 8s? Was it aa rubbing/too tight pain as in, was the boot putting pressure on specific parts of your foot eg little toe getting crushed or ball of the foot going numb due to the toe box being too narrow for your foot? Or did you have red, rubbed areas on your feet or the beginning of blisters forming? These are all signs of skates being too small for sure. However there are lots of different kinds of foot pains and rubbing, tightness, pressure points are just one cause of skater foot pain. The other kinds of foot pain are different and are more muscular, cramp-like or acheyness which intensifies to the point you need to remove the skates and then the pains instantly disappear. If you had those kinds of pains then they are less likely to be caused by the skates being too small and more likely are about extreme foot tension and 'gripping' with the toes. This is all unconscious and usually not obvious unless you really study it and put your attention in your feet and the soles of your feet when actually skating to see if you can identify one kind of pain from this other kind of pain. If it's the second kind, then this is caused by incorrect technique and having your weight too far back on your foot/feet, such as mid-foot or towards the heel. This causes the toes to grip like crazy to maintain balance and this gripping causes horrendous pains after about 5-10 minutes. Are you 100% sure your pains are the "skates too small" pains? Has this given you any further insights you can share?
@dabigcheeze
@dabigcheeze 7 күн бұрын
@@SkatefreshVideos Wow thank you for the response!! And it felt more so being crushed by the boot. It is the upper part of my foot just below my toes was being crushed by the skate. Both feet started to go numb after skating with them for about two weeks. At first, I thought it was just due to me breaking them in and possibly the technique as you said but I read your feet should not be getting crushed or feeling any pain. They were getting so uncomfortable I couldn't even skate and had to take them off. As soon as I took them off, I had no pain in my feet at all after about 5 minutes each time I skated. I was thinking of buying mens because I have wide feet for a woman and even when they say its wide, it's usually not enough.

🎣 I don’t get the comment. Do you mean that it’s difficult to think about where the camera is in relation to your next turn so you can change hands etc? If so, don’t worry about it, I think it looks great and I’m sure it would no matter what angle the camera is at.
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 8 күн бұрын
What I meant is that I do a lot of transitions from forwards to backwards when I skate and this means swapping hands so the camera doesn’t whizz around as that looks kinda weird and can make the viewer feel a bit nauseous (not the intention). So I still have to figure out this stuff. More practice needed!

I'm afraid I have to disagree. Many (if not most) intermediate level skaters unconsciously lean forwards into a sort of 'speed skater stance' when they're trying to skate faster and this is often accompanied by the V-ing explained in this video. I agree that they're not copying them intentionally but it's more an unconscious thing that happens. Leaning forwards without the amount of knee bend that speed skaters actually use, then causes a host of other problems....

What's the weight distribution on both legs when backwards scissor just free riding? How do you manage to jump a one meter area with what looked a minimal of jump?
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 11 күн бұрын
A cruising backwards Scissor position needs more weight on the trailing leg about 60-70% so that if you roll over a surface obstacle or rougher patch, the leading skate will be lighter so won't 'catch' on it and trip you up. The backwards jumps I do over metal covers (and other things that I want to avoid rolling over) do probably cover a distance or 1-3m with a pretty small jump. How? High speed. Video is a little deceptive in terms of showing speed and the most frequent comment I get in real life for example during a street skate is surprise at how fast I can go backwards. SO with higher speed and a tiny jump I cover several metres easily. If I was going half the speed I'd have to jump twice as high. Higher jumps are more risky as the landing needs to be very solid. But I'm not advocating people go super fast backwards unless they are comfortable with that speed. Backward speed takes many years to develop safely so no rush!
