I've been following you for some years now. Wish we could post pictures on YT so you can see what I've accomplished using your steps. I spray painted a cruiser bike that I bought last year. I went with the Rustoleum Strawberry Red spray paint and I also used the Spray Max 2K clear coat. Let me tell you, my bike gets so many compliments. Nothing looks better than a red paint job on a classic vehicle.

I’m also a Christian and just beat addiction, I’m getting ready to paint my 2000 dodge Dakota and I’m pretty nervous, I know I can paint it and do well because I’m very Meticulous and good at spray painting but I don’t have a garage and I’m nervous about sanding and the elements rusting it before I turbo can the thing… just praying god gives me the confidence to do this. I have a 1998 f150 I would LOVE to do this to! My daughter is high functioning autism. Although she was diagnosed with regressive autism... when she gets stressed, she turns playful childlike, she has learned to cope with it really well though, and works at her own business. I personally think she is fun when she regresses! LOL! I'm a big kid at heart myself.

This comment gives me flashbacks. I did this to a beautiful light denim blue 98 Crown Vic not knowing what I was getting into. I did a good job with the prep and paint, but because it was black alkyd enamel with no hardener, it would barely go a month without oxidizing and requiring a whole new polish and wax. If you do this to your beautiful Crown Vic, please please please put a 2K clear over it!

I’m going to go for it this weekend - sanding it up first then using the same exact paint you used in this video and then using the clear turbo cans from Rustoleum - how long do I wait to put down the clear? Till the last coat of paint is dry- about 30 mins then lay down the clear? And how many coats of clear do you think I should lay down? Thank you

Sounds good you got a good plan. The more coats you do the best finish you can get after wet sanding but I have done as minimum as 1 coat with good results but I recommend more if your gonna clear. 2-3 coats if you can.

That came out super good. I’m working on my tundra rn. 2 fenders came out perfect but I spot painted 1 side panel and even with the exact paint. I cannot get it to match or blend perfectly. Same with the tailgate. Not sure what I’m doing wrong😮

Make sure the cans were shaken up good and sometimes there is a chance of that happening but its out of our control because it could be a different batch number or the panels could have a different base color. For example a black fender and red door but not using a primer for both panels to make them match can cause the colors to be off when the top coat is applied. Hope that makes sense. Since this entire car was the same color we didn't need to prime it all the same color.

@@JamesDguy yeah I think that’s the issue on the side panel. The tailgate I repainted some spots was uneven so now I’m fixing it and the base coat won’t blend perfectly. I wet sanded the area but I didn’t wet sand a large amount so that might be the issue for me

Well this is where things get tricky. Mineral spirits will work for that but the turbo can caps won’t work good on smaller cans but yes you wanna make sure they are cleaned out

This rustoleum prevents rust and we just sanded to bare metal it wasn't bare metal until we made it bare metal. I never had a issue doing it this way with rustoleum paint in the many years doing it.

I’m going to use the 1 2 3 primer by zinsser and then the turbo white can from Rustoilum how many cans you think I’ll need and what should I know before doing it

Well I have a primer video out on the truck in previous videos. Sand with some 120-200 would be good if using a primer get 4-5 cans to be safe and after primer is dry sand down to 320 then shoot following the other steps mentioned in this video. Hope it helps God bless

When i see older cars painted a color they didnt come from the factory, i immediately think it mustve been a budget paint job. A shiny original color older car looks so much better. Well content gets more attention for aftermarket colors but this is actually a newer paint color on newer cars but he didn't like the dark color here in texas makes his A/C work harder in his car with the darker color. I don't ever do Oem re paints that's not my what channel is about and its not ideal for me in the long run either. Hope that helps clear it up! Thanks for commenting and God bless!

The lower the humidity the better. If humidity is high, it can cause bad orange Peel and take longer for paint to dry.

I’m getting ready to do my car. My car is flaking due to the manufacturer using a flawed paint. Do I have to sand my car down to the metal? Or can I still scuff it even though paint is missing? My sister is going to help me, but I’m almost about to lose her if we have to sand it all the way down to the metal because that’s gonna take a very long time.

You don’t have to sand to bare metal I sand off anything loose and then smooth it out 320-400 hand sand any areas that look like they might have a transition. If you feel it you will see it that’s the motto I go with anyways.

Do you primer it at all or just right into paint after sanding?

Depends if the panels are different colors for example red fender blue door yellow hood then yes i would prime it all the same color but if the panels are all stock same color they just need a good sand in my experience with spray can. With spray gun it’s more ideal to prime first difference in paint

I will put clear coat later. I just didn't have the time yet. When it's cooler I will take it back and do a 2k clear on it

Yup you can do that too but we aren’t doing that on this paint job I don’t do it on all of them and it holds up decent but holds up a LOT longer with a proper clear.

Hey man love your channel just subscribed. I would recommend to anyone looking to spend a little more for less orange peel to invest in a proper spray gun and sand down from something like 250 grit all the way down to 1500 grit.
