How to do a Finger Lock Takedown - Ed Hiscoe

Ed Hiscoe is a 9th degree black belt in Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu and owner of the Hiscoe School of Jiu-Jitsu in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He is also the President of the Canadian Jiu-Jitsu Union. At the age of 68, he is still active teaching classes at his dojo and seminars across Canada.
In this video he teaches a finger lock takedown against someone who is trying to intimidate you.

Hi Ed... Just a quick story. I'm an x boxer (55 years old) and have trained with world class fighters. The other day at the gym I had a huge body builder try to push me around. I had three choices, side step and hook him to the ribs and jaw, walk away or put him in a finger lock. I chose the finger lock. It was amazing to watch an oak tree fall to the ground and cry like a baby. Thanks my beautiful brother for a great trick. " Who says you can't teach an old dog a new trick "

How does one actually grab the finger fast enough so that he doesn't pull back to escape?
