@@deleriousclock yeah after countless tries and staying up so late i was able to nail it. But it didnt work when i did it in the exam because i was used to a soft bed not just a single mat. But i still got an A 😂

Masa Ali yay you passed! Haha i feel you though on the soft mat! It’s nice to start on the soft mat but it changes the feel and balance distribution a lot when you move to a thinner/harder surface

Exactly!!! I went to try one before the video and I stopped immediately out of fear/doubt. I thought that was SO weird because as a kid I just *did* it. I thought I would do it first try

How awesome is this. I've been watching and learning beginner moves just so I can dance/move better when I work out (or just dance in my room tbh) last week I started gymnastics and then this video just combines both of them! Woohoo! Thank you sir!

I wouldn't suggest you learn back flip or Front flip on youtube. You need a gym for that with mats and someone with experience next to you. You can get really hurt trying to do a backflip on your own.

I can still do the forward roll even up to today. At 53 or so years young! I also know that the quick stand-up after the roll is known as a "kip-up" in gymnastics as well. Kip-ups are also important to do in martial arts - not just in gymnastics - because in a fight or bout, you do not want to be on the ground - you will often lose the fight or bout while you are on the ground.

Oh my god I DID IT! I haven’t done it since childhood. The key is really to keep all of the movement in the legs, arms stay in place an head tucked. Just push past the mental block :)

This is very helpful! I need to do a martial arts type of shoulder roll, but can not even do a somersault. I think if I can master a basic somersault I can then move on to the other one. Thanks for making this video!

To those struggling, what helped me was actually doing a backwards roll first and rolling my head to the side. Just as practice for the general motion and positioning of your back during the roll. I also did a bunch of side/slanted rolls. Again just to get familiar with the form. I did 3, but I landed on my back wrong rhe last time. Not enough to injured though, just enough to realize I gotta learn better form and timing. But the biggest barrier really is that mental "I'm gonna hurt myself!"

ok this is a great tip for people who are afraid grab ur couch cushion any ones will do then try to roll on them TRUST ME U WILL DO IT AMAZINGLY i was trying like crazy and i didt know why i kept hoping so then i did it on couch cushion i did it after u master it on the couch cushions try to only but one cushion so ur back can get the feeling of what its like to land on and slowly work ur way up to no cushions

I had this martial art class yesterday and we had to do rolls.Everyone knew how to do rolls.I understood the ideea of rolling but i was scared.So i got paired with this girl she was really nice and helped me go theough it.ALTHOUGH i cant do the front rolls i can happily do the back ones

Those who have a fear to break their neck is not possible just learn a side roll and come back to this when you mastered some other gymnastic moves I suggest learning a candle stick is a simple one is like doing a backward roll but not really and learn a side roll and a cartwheel I guess just watch a few videos cartwheel all you can do is attempt you will just fell not break any bone or nothing.

whats difficult for me about this is muscle memory. im used to doing hand stands so i usualyl go for a handstand instead of the roll. and that takes some work to change the muscle memory pattern.

I used to forward rolls all the time in judo. in judo we also had to turn our hands side ways or make a fist so we wouldn't break our fingers. let me tell you I just did one and my head had me spinning because I hadn't done them in so long....lol

Just as long as you roll on the top of your back I don’t see how people sprain their necks- your head should NEVER touch the ground during this, it helps to keep your arms on the floor while rolling to support yourself while you tuck your head to your knees.

My gym coach never taught me where to land in my roll so i kept hurting my neck and head 😤, now i know TRW! 20 yrs later lol

I totally made the mistake of placing the top of my head on the floor first. Ugh. Thanks you so much for the 2 tips: tucking my chin and rolling onto the top of my back (not onto my neck or head)!

I wouldn't suggest you learn back flip or Front flip on youtube. You need a gym for that with mats and someone with experience next to you. You can get really hurt trying to do a backflip on your own.

For all the people who are scared to do it. Start with a mattress. Or bed. Then try mat. I think that helps

I already know how to roll frontroll and back roll this is how to roll back step1. Make sure you stretch. Step2. Sit like to roll front Step3. Walk backwards by siting Yeah that is how (like my comment if it work)

Gryffindor Girl Same T^T I can’t do any gymnastics and I’m the only one in my grade who can’t do a simple forward roll and all the girls are like “It’s so easy!” But when I try it, I roll over sideways and they laugh quietly and I get really embarrassed (nevermind the low mark I get for P.E.)

I'm the class chonk, and I know for a fact I'm getting a poor grade in PE. But honestly if you just try your best, your teacher will see that and pushing yourself will help you improve :)
