How to do a French Fishtail Braid - Hair by Katie D

This braid tutorial is going to show you how to master the French fishtail braid. Here are my main tips to ace this basic braided hairstyle:
* keep each strand of the braid separated between fingers
* Make sure to “lock” in the braid by taking a section from the inside.
* make sure the hair from the sides you are adding is smooth before you move on
* Finish the braid all the way down with a strandard fishtail, or stop adding hair halfway down for a half-up style, or stop at the nape and secure into a ponytail
This is one of my favorite simple braids because it’s so versatile. It can be done on short hair or long hair. It can be added to bridal updos, or made into a half-up hairstyle. I always love to add hair accessories to my easy hairstyles to make them pop!

Thank you! I've been learning from other braid videos and can never get it cleanly locked in because my daughter moves so much. You're the only one that does regular fishtail in between the French to lock it in. Very helpful!

Looks easy enough but when i go to do this on my own hair, I will definitely struggle with it. Lol My hair is thick and super long at that! Down to my upper thighs long too! At least a good 40 inches long! I’m feeling overwhelmed already and haven’t even started yet. Lol

Oh I started braiding my hair like 2 or 3 months ago. I've gotten better even though my hair is really long. I can do Dutch and French braids all the way down but this one I can only do half of my hair. So I just do a half braid. It still looks good
