very accurate break down of the fellow who was Robin Williams. A hobby of mine is trying to guess where folks are from when they speak. UK is fairly easy..and the North versus south Ireland...South is like Leprechaun of Lucky charms "top o ta mornin to ya" and Northern IR is closed and similar to Bono. Robt Kline was from an area of the St Louis metro communities.. where 44 is pronounced farty far. I just moved to S. CA from 50 years in STL.

Yes! You have to listen to his recordings and see if you can feel what it feels like to be him. Then take a phrase and try to duplicate it, even one word if a phrase is too daunting. Record yourself and make adjustments.
@jasonw66885 жыл бұрын
Got a few questions. 1) When you hold your voice in, does your voice naturally take on the tone of Robin Williams or are you subconsciously doing some embellishing? And 2) how do you keep your voice in? I've been trying to do that and don't quite get it.
@jimmeskimen5 жыл бұрын
Keeping one's voice in is just something you have to drill. I wish I knew how to describe it better. As with any impression, you just have to kind of "BE" the person and speak from the same place, physically, that you find they do. It's a thing you practice. Hope that helps.

Hi Jim, I want to ask you, why couldn't you have played the Genie in the live-action Aladdin? Will Smith is a great actor, no doubt, but Robin Williams WAS the Genie, so why couldn't you have played the Genie? And if Disney asked you to play the Genie again, what would you say?
@jimmeskimen5 жыл бұрын
That's a fun question! Well, Disney would of course be wise to cast a very, VERY well known, A-list actor to play such a popular role. So I'm about 15,000 people down the list from Will Smith, last time I checked. That's why Robin originally got the job, he was a very hot young-fish actor then. It was an unusual choice at the time, one that resulted in a masterful and memorable performance. If I had been asked, by some miracle or someone's idiotic reasoning, or if a plague hit Hollywood and 90% of the film stars all got cold sores, then I would have been HAPPY to do the part. But Robin being the only REAL Robin, any imitation of him would have, I think, been very dissatisfying. Fair enough? Let's give our friend Will a chance, I say. He's awfully brilliant.
@dhivaansalig63985 жыл бұрын

First I am a fan of RW but (to me, ), Robin was a better dramatic actor than a comedian. His comedy was too over the top and often childish and made little sense. He was like a child showing off at a party. But as a character actor he was a much more commanding performer. I am not surprised he was suicidal because he was more serious than funny. Another like this is Jim Carrey. Just too much energy to be truly funny but when that energy is contained in a dramatic role it is very moving. Sure they both make us laugh, but for me there is a limit and they reach it quite soon, where they become annoying and ( for me anyway) become buffoon like. a couple of others that spring to mind, Billy Connelly, Bill Murray, Will Smith, Whoopi Goldberg... There are a lot really who can act serious roles very well when they are known more for comedy. Maybe it is the two sided personality that makes them so; a contrast so to speak. One serious actor whom I cannot stand in a comedic role though and he has had a few but to me they seem to stiff and 'try hard' and that is Robert DeNero. I hated him in those 'Focker' movies. So unfunny.
@deliveryman19706 жыл бұрын
I agree with the Robert De Niro thing, look at Goodfellas for example, brilliant acting. Then he tries comedy, not so good. I guess it's how fat the paycheck is at the end of the day.
