Hi Gail. Thank you so much for this. I am considering a scoping review as part of my PhD application preparation. I have also watched the JBI videos, who state quite emphatically that thematic analysis (which I have used before) should NOT be completed in a scoping review. Hi Philip. All research is moving towards publication of protocols as it improves transparency and rigor, however, I can be time consuming and might delay the review completion. Protocol publication is not mandatory. BMC systematic reviews and BMJ Open publish protocols. The journal you chose will depend on the topic and subsequent audience- what is your topic?

If it is for a research proposal but not for journal or conference, you might not need to finish a complete scoping review because that might take months or even longer. But the steps in this video will also be helpful I think.

Hi Amed. Sorry I haven't replied sooner. In a scoping review, it is best to use the proposal as an active document and make iterations to it as you become more aware and have more insight into the topic. I'm not really familiar with another type of review or 'scoping study'. You might be safer asking your supervisor to elaborate. Thanks, Gail

Hi Philip. We completed searches on 5 databases, however, around half of the articles were accessed by manually reviewed reference lists. All data extraction was manual also. Good luck.
