I FINALLY GOT IT - What really helped me was holding the pen with the tip facing downwards and as I did the "flick" I then rotated my wrist along with the spin in the position he showed in the video; that little rotation really helps to carry the spin into the index finger. Also: be GENTLE with the spin, give the pen a soft "push" as opposed to a sudden "flick."

something that really helped me that i recommend is taking a slo-mo video of you doing it, then watching closely and improving what you did wrong/improving timing

If you can't get this in 5 minutes, don't wory, it's not just you. It took me a full day to actually get to a constant level where I could do 4 or 5 in a row before dropping the pen. So, just keep to it. It is really helpful to get a men mod though, a random cheap on one amazon works great for me.

I'm still practising and i just did it, then stopped doing it, then i did it again, which leads me to now. One thing that worked for me is that you don't rush learning. Ignore the part where you use your index to catch it. All you have to do is practise getting it around the thumb with your middle finger. Keep experimenting until you find something that works, then practise that. For me, I just subconsciously learned to catch it with my index. Hope this helps anyone.

hello everyone so i just wanted to leave a comment on here and say that this video and a bunch of other videos helped me learn how to do the thumb around im still not that good in doing it one after one and i fu*k it up sometimes but i learnt the technique it took me about 3 to 4 days to learn how to actually do it but yeah i did it one thing that was bothering me a lot was my fingers. i have a pretty big hands and fingers and it's a bit difficult if you have big hands and you're doing it on a long pen/pencil. also as lukas mentioned here (3:44) it's much more easier if you hold it towards one side of the object if it's a balanced thing like a pen or pencil but after you learnt it and you wanted to do it on other things like a spoon or fork, just remember that it helps a lot if you hold it that the heavier part of the object is farther from your index and middle finger

*I’VE OFFICIALLY DONE IT, AND I’M ABLE TO DO IT MULTIPLE TIMES!* Keep scrolling for tips! 1. Maybe you’re holding onto it for dear life.. Grasp it rather loosely, if you hold it too tight you’ll be unable to spin it around your thumb. 2. Actually, when I first started, my every time I spun it my thumb would actually dodge the pen instead of the pen spinning around it. If that’s an issue for you, do the motion without the pen. Notice how your thumb moves, you want to keep it rather still. Practice so your thumb will reduce its movement! 3. Like how he says in the video, practice the snapping movement. Your thumb will also NATURALLY move, not dodging the pen. Your thumb naturally moving is completely fine, it’ll still spin around it. 4. When spinning the pen around your thumb, (like using the middle finger,) do it rather lightly. You don’t need to hit the pen around your thumb that hard, it actually moved around your thumb with light movement of your middle finger. Try it out, do what’s best for you! 5. Last but not least, before I conclude the tips, PRACTICE.. PRACTICE… PRACTICE.. I still haven’t even mastered it yet. Different people take different amounts of time to actually complete the trick. Don’t worry about it when people share they’ve accomplished it in “10” minutes or what not. I actually began to do it on day 4. Don’t worry about what other people say, just keep practicing. HOPE THIS HELPED! ^^

Yo, I actually got it (what to do, how much spin to add and how to balance) within five minutes like promised! It took me ~15 minutes to get it semi-consistently but I'm impressed. I only know a few pem tricks and mostly do spin tricks of my own (More like variations though) and this is the fastest one I've learnt. Especially siince I always found it really impressive and more difficult than other tricks

Hi random human i met on the internet, just want to say do not give up on it i was the same(still starting well..started 3days ago) i was trying to learn thumbaround and failed so i switched to finger pass which worked and i can do it about perfectly right now (it took between 20-30h) of spinning most of it while watching youtube or tv Quick random tip if you cant do it still Try using a longer/heavier pen or duct tape the sides of a pencil untill you feel comfortable with the weight
