Man I love these old Dodge trucks! I have a 1985 D150 with 25K original miles. It's like new and I love it! These older Dodge trucks are getting HARD to find in good shape and by the comments I get about mine, a lot of people seem to love them as well. It seems like everybody has a Chevy or a Ford truck and I love them too and have owned a few but I really like finding stuff that is different. Keep up the good fight for the old Dodges!

I would also recommend using a six point socket because the 12 point ones have a tendency to roll off the shoulders on the oil drain bolts. Really you should use them to really tighten down or loosen hard to turn bolts and nuts so as not to strip them. While your under there you should grease up all the zert fitting you can get to also.

Your Ram might be equipped with Flat Tappets, Roller Cams for the 360 came out in 1989, as such it is vitally important to use a API Service Rating oil for your motor, in those years the Service Rating was SF, which is no longer being produced until recently motor oil was reverse compatible until service rating SN SN+ and SP came out, as such engines equipped with flat tappets should use a Hot Rod Motor Oil or a Diesel Oil like the Rotella T4, the main ingredient needed that those oils contain that the news ones don't is the proper Zinc Content! great video though!

It was a little over exposed, but nothing I wouldn't have ignored had you not said anything. Also, does that truck not burn any oil? I always go to the tippy top when I fill as a little insurance.
@JasonExplainsThings6 жыл бұрын
williwonti yeah I check it again after a day or two. I’ve overfilled a few times going all the way to the top, drive around, and then check and it goes above max on the dipstick.
@Bray916 жыл бұрын
Should always have the truck on the ground level when adding oil to insure an accurate reading on the dipstick. Really surprised to see you didnt add any oil into the filter either before installing it. I guess everyone has their own ways for doing there own oil changes, I'm just extra cautious I guess.
@JasonExplainsThings6 жыл бұрын
Bray91 well if you watched my video I said to add oil till it’s on the bottom of the dip stick... then do final adding and check on level ground. Also with that truck the filter is tilted. But hey, thanks for watching.

Hey Jason, This is unrelated to the video, but I have an 84 dodge ram d100. You take great pride in your truck so I'd appreciate your feedback/ guidance with my inquiry. The engine bay has not been washed in years and it's caked with dust, dirt, grease, etc. I would like to power wash the engine bay with a degreaser and pressure cleaned, but concerned about royally messing something up. I imagine it's not as simple as with modern vehicles. Have you done an engine bay wash on your truck? If so, what has worked best for you? Perhaps this could be another video idea. Kind regards, - Jose

Howdy Jason, my name is Jason from Texas. I have a black 1990 dodge ram, D150 short bed, 2wd, with a v6 3.9l motor, w/ a manual 4 speed +/w a overdrive gear transmission. I've notice that when your hood was raised through your oil change video, that you do not have any underhood barrier insulation for the exterior finish paint for the top of your needed hood protection. Here's a short list of things that the damaging heat is from, the motor, exhaust, God's element's, etc., it will eventually start to make the exterior paint bubble up & flake away, by just washing your vehcile or just driving down the road. Check out LMC Trucks, Design engineering, your local Dodge dealerships & other well known websites for your choice of a underhood heat barrier. "WARNING!" Please DO NOT put it off any longer on your needed heat barrier. If you have already installed one? Then good deal! "When I mention about the bubbles & flakes earlier, I'm a owner of them so. The bubbles & flakes started on my 1990 dodge ram last year. I'm working on getting my underhood barrier from the websites I've mention about above. Thanks for your dodge truck maintenance/repair videos. I like how you humble yourself when you make your mistakes & your comical explanations while doing your needed maintenance/repairs & most of all! Thanks for keeping the negative/bad language out of the videos, it makes a difference when I personally watch KZbin videos. God bless Jason! & to the ones who made it through the long letter!LOL;-)-
@JasonExplainsThings5 жыл бұрын
Jason Griffith thanks for the letter. I haven’t removed any paneling or insulation. But I’ll look into adding some at your recommendation. This is a pretty bare bones truck... but I’m only the 3rd owner which is pretty cool. Bought it from a good friend who bought it from the first owner... older guy who passed away. I hope to be able to park it under a carport soon.
