Wow! This is amazing! I want to get into goldfish keeping and this was insanely helpful. As a kid I had a betta, and I honestly don't know how this little sucker lived for so long. I'd do 100% water changes every, idk, few months? And cleaned the whole tank top to bottom. I'm well aware now that this is god awful and have 0 intentions of re-doing it, with my only excuse being 'I was a kid and didn't know any better'. But now I will get all the proper materials and do it well. Thank you for the video!

Pro tip. You can siphon the gravel tube by putting it in your tank, filling it with water, letting the water drain 3/4ths the way out of the tube, pinch the hose, put it back into the tank and let it refill and unpinch the hose. No pumping or sucking needed XD
@MASSAquariums3 жыл бұрын
Yep. Done that a million times
@Cherbanov8 жыл бұрын
you dont need the pump for the hose, just put it in the aquarium and jerk it up and down fast 5 times and the sifon will start =). just a tip
@MASSAquariums8 жыл бұрын
I used to do that but the pump works just as good
@frandegroat79435 жыл бұрын
The pump is much easier in a small 5.5gal tank as the vac is too long !

One other concern I have with a python is in the filling process. If your using some of your hot water and another person in your house decides to do a load of laundry with cold water the water pressure drops and the water going to your tank gets allot hotter. This happens to me at my house when im in the shower. Now it might not harm your fish with a 20 percent change, but someone on youtube wiped out thier whole tank doing a 50 percent water change this way.
@enjii8 жыл бұрын
That would be terrible! We got our plumbing fixed a year ago and it resolved that issue (shower, toilet, sinks, dish washer affecting the water temp).

Hello! I have a 10 gallon for my Betta fish, i use TankFirst Complete Aquarium Water Conditioner . Which calls for one cap for 10 gallons, if i do the 25% water change which is 2.5 gallons do i just add on cap as you said you treat for the entire tank size? Also do i add the conditioner to the bucket of new water for the tank or add the new water then condition it inside the tank?

Another question I have is should I take them out because they're such small fish? Or should I leave them in?

@JNC19734 жыл бұрын
Damn your tank is crystal clear. But I understand why now. You do a cleaning every week. My community tank water is Brown and murky. But part of the reason for that is I have only been doing Vacs/Water Changes like once a Month if that. I gotta do it way more often to keep the water clear. It's just a pain in the ass cause every time I go to do a vac my fish start freaking out like it's the end of the World or something and start getting in the way of the Gravel Vac. So while I'm trying to vac the gravel and not miss any spots at the same time I'm trying not to suck any fish up the tube. I gotta lot of Bottom Feeders in mine too.
@MASSAquariums4 жыл бұрын
You can put a mesh bag over the vac. The fish will get used to it
@JNC19734 жыл бұрын
@@MASSAquariums But will the brown mushy stuff under the gravel be able to get through the mesh ya think ? Sounds like a good idea if the fish waste and leftover food can get through the mesh bag. I'll give it a try next time I vac.

I usually fill a jug full of water and dechlorinator as the last step of my water change. And then by the time I get to next water change, my water is prepared. I like it. Keep it simple. It’s not that hard.

That's why I haven't purchased the python or a similar system. It doesn't seem good to put straight chlorinated tap water right into the aquarium whether or not there is extra conditioner in there or not...

What is the ID of the hose? Your water is flowing nice and slow, what I need for my tank. TY!

It’s the python water change system

I was wondering if I could use a gallon of spring water to do my water changes. I was thinking of going to Walmart and buying a few of those gallon jugs (walmart brand) and adding the 7 drops of water conditioner into it. This way when I am ready to do the water change for my fish tank I already have water prepared.

Yes you could do that. I just use tap water from the faucet. You don't need to buy your water for a fresh water tank. Make sure the temp is the same and dump it right in and add your dechlorinator right into the tank.

Thank you for answering so fast. I am going to do that first off so I have a few clean water gallons. I used a milk one, I cleaned it out as good as I could but my tank is a little foggy. Thinking maybe I didn't get all the milk out. Had my water tested and it had too much ammonia. Got it fixed now still, water is a little foggy. But my beta "Guy" is doing fine. Hoping to add some tetras eventually.

This might seem a daft question but what stops the syphon sucking up a fish or is there not enough suction to do that? I'm new to this and learning the basics prior to buying a cold water tank.

It could suck up a tiny fish but they usually stay away
