Any normal sewing thread you have on hand or easy access to is fine. You don't even have to use one that matches your hair. You can use different colours just to wear as an interesting look to have while you have the threads in.

These are really cool, but that's not what it's supposed to look like. It's supposed to be a lot closer to each other to cover the hair completely so that it straightens your hair and give you a natural blow out when you take it out.

If using wool the key is to keep it moistureed so it doesn't dry out the hair. I think she used african thread which has a waxy/silky finish so it doesn't dry out the hair.
