Thanks Barbara. I am going to ty this with 2 colors. I think one of the Walker books has it in it. I tried Linen stitch years ago, but couldn't keep track of what I was doing. You gave a good explanation, and working with a single color with the Linen stitch didn't help because I didn't understand what was happening in the pattern. Kudos!

That is a really neat and textured looking stitch, great for a blanket and a different stitch type that just has a great uniformed look with the variegated colors and keeps interest and a nice project that anyone can appreciate. I have not tried this stitch myself, thank you for showing us how to. I like the "woven" look.

I adore slip stitches and they are super fun in hand-knitting. That said, I know there are things you can do on a knitting machine that are super difficult if not impossible to reproduce by hand. I'm sure you'll have fun experimenting.

Oh, like it. I avoided variegated yarn because of the dots of colour, until I learned of Stephanie Lotven's "knit happy with self-striping yarn". You gave me a second option! Would be lovely to knit a bottom with self-striping yarn in this stitch and continue with the main colour to the top. Thanks, Barbara.

I learned to use 2 sources of yarn. I love variegated yarn. Using two sources of your variegated yarn will break up the color more. I think this slip stitch pattern is fun, and I will experiment with it.

Alternating skeins is a great way to tame a variegated, as is holding two strands together to make a heavier yarn.

I made a small shawl about 15 years ago in a cashmere variegated yarn. It was a triangle done with linen stitch. I wish I had known about the woven stitch back then, and my finished shawl would have been lighter and less compact. Do you have a pattern of yours that uses the woven stitch? There are lots of variegated yarns in my stash that are crying out to be used. Great video, Barbara! 💜🙏🏼

This is pretty awesome, but wouldn't it be easier to just do the slipped stitches on the right side with the yarn in front?

You can totally do that if it’s easier for you. I like doing it on the wrong side because it cuts the number of purls I have to do in half lol. Easy is different for different people.

I have some self patterning yard that makes a jacquard or faux fairsle look as you knit will this stitch work with it
@WatchBarbaraKnit
@WatchBarbaraKnit 3 жыл бұрын
I would say no. I believe those types of yarns are designed to only work with stockinette worked at a specific gauge. I mean, if what you are looking to do is eliminate the self patterning then it might work, but if you want it to still self pattern this would mess that up.

How do the slipped stitches affect the row gauge? Since you have a swatch with both...

Ok, I just checked. In this swatch (DK weight I think) the woven st it takes 8.5 - 9 rows to make an inch and in the stockinette it takes 6.5.
