How to do “vertushka” (arm spin). What details affect the throw?

Don’t think #armspin is not effective. It does work! In this Sambo move you can follow through and arm lock your opponent. See for yourself.
Sambo is a versatile sport because it has large amount of techniques in standing position as well as on the ground. Why can't you throw an opponent who's equal or stronger opponent? There are two main reasons. First - you're setting up and doing the throw wrong, and the second you're predictable and everyone knows your moves. In both cases your technique is flawed and something has to be changed. All progressive MMA fighters are incorporating sambo submissions. It's easily explainable due to limited time on the ground ( 2-5 seconds to catch and another minute to complete ). Sambists research the fastest and most effective ways to finish for years. Why does everyone want to finish fast? It's an opportunity to finish in style and preserve your energy. I know the taste of quick finishes like no other. 25 years in sambo, 13 World Championships in which i earned 2 golds, 4 silvers, 1 bronze and most importantly 90% of my victories happened before regulation time expired. I spent 20000 hours

This is Judo technique,“UDEGAESHI”. This work is called "UDEGAESHI or KAINAGAESHI" by judo and the old Japanese police arrest way is made an origin. When there are no handcuffs, a policeman takes the armlock technique called "UDETORAE" to the capacity of the criminal while reaching. A criminal tried to run away from armlock technique at the same time, and when trying to escape, a policeman gives up, beats and controls a criminal by this "UDEGAESHI".

This was my favorite surprise technique back when I was competing in Judo. I think I called it te gatame, but ude gaeshi is probably more correct. It is simply very easy to trick someone into this. Simply get a lapelle grip and fend off the other arm. Chances are good that he will reach over the grip arm, and Bang!, you got him. The only problem is that many opponents don't roll through, and prefers to land face down. Even if you get the kimura, it doesn't look to good for the referee. Maybe you have to let go to avoid being disqualified. In these days, probably more than ever.

When I was wrestling in college in the early 90's guys were trying to adapt this throw from judo to wrestling. Didn't go well in college since you can't secure a collar. Officials started calling it potentially dangerous since the arm was being turned inward and all the pressure was forced to the shoulder without a collar to grip. I would have loved to learn judo because I think it has great street application.

This is such a fun technique. But is it dangerous to hit on unsuspecting partners? I was doing this without kurtka. From over hook or russian 2-1, i feed the overhooking arm to collar tie and with cross wrist grip, i bend the arm at the elbow to rotate it. When my partner was doing it to me, it felt like an uncontrolled fast shoulder lock which i had to relieve by rolling. am i being paranoid or should i tell my partner that this is something i'm working on? Thank you

Question: Can this be done without a gi? Obviously the wrist can be grabbed but what about the other arm going on/across the chest? Grabbing the singlet is not allowed. I coach folk style wrestling in high school and love to teach upper body. I’m a big fan of a Japanese wizzer/arm roll and this has some similar elements. We teach a Russian tie as one set up and vertushka would be a great move from that set up. Anyone have an answer to this?

It is an old judo move (ude gaeshi). I remember seeing two different versions in a book (I think either in Kashiwazaki's _Fighting Judo_ or Okano's _Vital Judo_ ), one being mentioned as forbidden under sport rules and the other one being accepted. I also saw an accepted variation in Komuro's _Ne waza_ . I think it is still acceptable in judo competition if you hold the sleeve instead of the wrist (since there is indeed a joint lock in this case).

@@marksoberay2318 In my comment, "ne waza" is the the name of a book a mentioned, "Judo ne waza of Koji Komuro Komlock" :) . It contains several throws chosen to transition into favourable newaza positions and it includes ude gaeshi as I said (so, since the book is relatively recent, I guess there is definitely a "legal" variation).

@@bsharaboata7861 I have just checked, ude gaeshi appears in: - *Fighting Judo, by Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki* It is an awesome book but it is no longer printed and you can only find VERY expensive second-hand paper versions sold by speculators. However, you can also find it online... - *Vital Judo: throwing techniques* (there is another volume specifically on grappling techniques that is awesome), *by Isao Okano* Same thing as the first book, it is awesome but you will only find expensive second-hand books in English. Once again, the alternative is to download it (though there is still a printed Italian edition... if you read Italian). - *Judo Newaza of Koji Komuro Komlock, by Koji Komuro* This book deals with less techniques than the two first ones but it is a great book nevertheless. It is very newaza-oriented for modern judo competitions and it suggests not just a set of techniques but a way to organise your game, focusing especially on transitions from standing to ground game. You can order it both in paper version and ebook (even DVD I think). Enjoy
