Thanks for yet another great video! When you get the chance, can you talk about determining whether you're a CW or CCW jumper or spinner? Gus Lussi talked about this in his book, and said it depends on which foot is more secure for landing. As I just started to learn jumps and spins, I'm having a hard time deciding. It seems more natural for me to jump CCW but spin CW. How do you help your students in this regard?
@rnieIIe_lr3 жыл бұрын
Hey it’s an old comment but if by any chance you see this did you figure out what worked? I naturally rotate CW but my right foot is by far more secure for landings and following the advise you mentioned I should be jumping CCW. I practice CCW more currently but wondering if it’ll hinder my progress if I start working on doubles, would it be better to train landing on my left foot or train spinning CCW?
@chiutwan3 жыл бұрын
@@rnieIIe_lr Hi, I just don't want to spin and jump in different directions and I can't seem to jump CW, so I've been practicing spinning CCW. Once you're familiar with backward spins, that will help with your jump rotations (assuming you're jumping and spinning to the same direction.) The Lussi book was published decades ago. My coach told me there has been lots of development in skating, so whether his advice is still considered valid, I really don't know. If you have a coach, perhaps s/he could offer better assessment and advice specifically for you. Best of luck!

I'd say if your free leg starts second, stays second after the turn (fwd.outside). If it starts first, stays first after the turn (fwd.inside).

Is bringing the heel in just for learning or is it the correct way?

Not to mention if you use your pick Going fast it gets stuck and you get a weird sprain with your foot in that position. I've done this lol.
@Mgaby19922 жыл бұрын
See! When I took my lessons, the teacher didn’t explain the details or posture about anything! The whole time, I wasn’t rocking forward to lift my heel so the whole time I though it was about the speed of the turn to be able to move the blade quick enough without stopping/tripping. I actually stopped my lessons because I could never pass my level because of this move!
@CoachJulia2 жыл бұрын
Oh my gosh that must have been so frustrating! I can’t imagine not teaching that bit of technique to a student. I am glad I could clarify for you.

How do these compare to outside three turns?
@CoachJulia3 жыл бұрын
Outside edge three turns still rotate in towards the circle. If you look at the pattern a three turn makes on the ice, whether inside edge, outside edge, forward or backward, it still looks like a stretched out 3 on the ice. Bracket always rotate away from the circle, and the pattern always has the point going away from the circle like a bracket '}'. 😁
