I'm happy to hear you found the video helpful! Fortunately the ice rink in Swindon does a great job at making skating very inclusive for everyone. It's great that they give the opportunity for people in wheelchairs to get the thrill of going on the ice.

Excellent video, plus I'll give you big points on the comedy. TRLOL. 6:30 I was just coaching my best friend on the three turn and he was doing what you illustrated here, shifting the arms while keeping his shoulders square to the direction of travel. He looked exactly like you comically illustrated. It took some earnest coaching to get him to twist that waist and as soon as he did it two things happened simultaneously: 1: We all could see the difference and cheered him, and 2: He grabbed his back because he could really feel those muscles working when he twisted his waist like that. Once he did it correctly once he could tell the difference. It feels unnatural to skate straight forward while your shoulders are twisted off the line of travel.

I'm struggling so hard making a circle on my left outside edge. I try rotating and leaning into the circle more but my circle just does not not happen :< does anyone else have this issue?
@ninjagal2 жыл бұрын
My problem is the continuity. Moving from left forward outside 3turn and right forward outside 3turn is hard. I tend to go on my toepick to slow down before I transition to the next one vs when I see others just smoothly going to the next without the disjointed/choppy feeling
@IceCoachOnline2 жыл бұрын
That's a very common mistake when trying to do alternating 3 turns. I think I posted a tutorial about it to my website/Patreon. It's one I would like to post to KZbin eventually too.
@bellechua23812 жыл бұрын
Hi, Lloyd. Is there any hard & fast rule for the hand placement at starting position? I find it easier to get into the check position with stability when I have my right hand in front when doing the right outside 3-turn, and vice-versa on the other side. Could you also do a video on inside 3-turns? I am struggling with that for the longest time 😩.
@IceCoachOnline2 жыл бұрын
No, there isn't a hard and fast rule about it, unless you put your shoulders square when you move your hands instead of rotating the whole torso. I thought about teaching it the way you describe in this video but decided against it as I find it makes people rush the entrance edge too much. I personally think it's better to develop a nice even semi-circle with a nice curve in and out. How you describe it can result in quite a straight-line type of 3 turns. I think there is the inside 3 turn posted on my channel somewhere (it's quite an old video now and probably needs an update too). If not, it is definitely on the website/Patreon

So what is this one called?: T position, right leg in front. Pusing off with left leg going in a curve (right foot i side edge) and then turning on that right foot to outside edge ? We were practicing that in my ice skating class and im confused because all the 3 step turns that go around the left start with the left foot outside edge... Oh also it's not just one curve but two kinda like the top part of a heart

Very helpful video. By the way, although a good idea, your marker does not show up on the video. You need a darker color. LOL, what the heck is with the wheel chairs being pushed around the rink in the background?? The senior center having a field day? Some kind of enrichment activity? I'm 64 now, I hope thats not me in 20 years.
