Here's something that you might want to cover in a follow up ebike maintenance video. After about 10 months of riding my ebike and approximately 2000 miles, I experienced a noise coming from my rear hub that sounded like bad bearings or a card in the spokes of a kid's bike kind of sound. Well, I went to my bike manufacturer's website and checked out a video on bike noises and found out that it needed to be lubed in the hub area. I would have thought that area of the bike would have been well greased for many years to come. So anyways, I laid my bike horizontally to the ground, derailer side facing up, and sprayed some teflon dry lube into the axle area between the last gear and the frame of the bike and then let gravity do its work. Well, to my surprise, the sound which seemed to be an extensive repair went away within a few miles of riding. I hope that this may help someone out there....take care. Two-year Update: I'm at 5,000 total miles now and have ridden 3,000 miles since the noise problem. It runs great and the noise never returned, but I'm thinking about doing a second dose of Teflon dry spray (approx. 5 seconds burst of spray using spray straw) as preventative maintenance.

Yeah that's not really going to cut it. You need to open up the hub motor and put some white lithium grease in there. I guarantee it's dry as a bone in there after 2000 miles.

Wow I can’t believe I’m just finding your channel. And maintenance upkeep and routine basis is something I’ve wanted to be able to commit to but I didn’t even know how to go about it for the best approach. And I have to admit I’m not familiar with hydraulic disc brakes gears and trailers fork settings, Tire maintenance, battery maintenance, etc… I’m 58 years old and I purchased very large 26 inch step through fat tire SUV type E Bike last February this February will be my one year anniversary with it.And I can honestly say I haven’t done much maintenance on it at all I don’t even know how to go about it. I’m a 70s BMX guy who used to Tear apart is bike every day make sure it was 100% ready to go bombproof. I’ve had pedal bikes mountain bikes along the way with gears but never really took to them and never really understood how to mess around with gears or settings and when things didn’t work smoothly I would get aggravated but I didn’t do much writing because I was too busy. Now I traded in a brand new car and committed to this E Bike is my only form of transportation. I’m in Florida and 55+ Community I just about everything is within bike range I also have two very large batteries so I can get in long distance but haven’t committed to it yet lol. When I saw your video I had to watch it and I have to watch it a few more times but I need to learn more about my bike and his brakes and his gears because honestly I’m clueless and I’m also clueless about talking about volts and amps and what have you. What I do is hop on the river I’ve gotta go ride like a wild man flat out hit small jumps here and there but the bike is pretty sloppy but that not very agile but nonetheless a ride down deep into a median strip and come flying out the other side into the road I just love to ride love to ride fast. Right now I’m in my living room trying to make a mic stand out of two by fours to work on my bike because it’s very large and awkward and heavy. But I’m replacing another rear tire tube. The second one in a month and a half and I’m starting to get aggravated. When I go to my bank it’s about a 7 to8 mile ride and I ride the bike lanes in the roads along with traffic and there’s so much debris in the road so last Sunday I managed to get three small nails and a very large sheet metal screw with a washer all in the same area in my tire put me out of commission I was stranded at 7 PM and got home at 4 AM I wasn’t happy. Put me out of commission I can’t travel to stores that need to go to or just go out and ride now it was six days not good. Even with a portable air pump it ran out of juice and just didn’t have enough for me to receive the tire on the tube hoping that my flat out which sealed multiple holes but I was at a luck. The last time my Richard was replaced my neighbor helped me and he’s not very organized and goes about things rather quickly and haphazardly but he has a heart of gold and he really help me out because I was intimidated by it the job. He managed to get the change done but at the end with two extra washers and I didn’t feel good about that lol the next day I went back and put the two washers in that belong to the brake calipers. So tonight I’m going to be doing the replacement myself. I need to learn just about everything about this bike. I don’t know if it’s doable but I need to be able to do a rear tire tube change on the road so I don’t become stranded or pay $56 for a ride home ouch I could’ve got A good rear tire liner for that money. The next time around I think I’m going to watch the DIY video where this gentleman uses foam pipe insulation like a certain companies tile liner basically it’s a beefed up pool noodle which are also videos for you but I might give it a whirl next time. Who knows I may come into money again for the Realtor lineup lol but thank You was a bike maintenance video thank you for a great channel I like the way you go about teaching I’m looking forward to learning a lot about my bike I haven’t maintain it from you in your channel thanks brother✌️😊

Great video! Make sure... You check the tire's maximum pressure rating before filling. I changed my Kenda fat tires (26x4) and filled them to 24psi (per what I read online). When the tire popped off mid ride (that was fun), I noticed that the tire was rated to a MAX pressure of 20psi. Refilled it to 16psi and its running happy now.

Micah, just wanted to say Hi. Noticed that you graduated from U of Pittsburgh and, as Pittsburgh residents, you know that biking here it is always uphill and downhill. Thanks to all of the bike trails around this area my wife and I (both seniors) do enjoy getting on our bikes and riding for a a couple of hours a few times a week. Although we don't have ebikes, your tutorials on ebikes are ever so helpful as we are seriously thinking about buying one for each of us . I had a noise that only clicked 2 times per complete full cycle, on riding uphill or first few cranks starting out from a complete stop; HARD to find on the stand with no stress! I just bought for my brother, a practically new bike from someone that never found time to ride it. I knew it was not a tired bottom bracket or anything serious of course; I found it was a loose nut on the back wheel; looks like it never got assembled right; there's only 300 miles on this bike, and it has a loose wheel nut? Not tightened to spec from the bike shop or factory. It was only on the left side away from the gears; was quite loose, without much play in it however; but not even finger tight.. 3/4 inch nut, or mm equiv. The loud click was from the loose nut and the lock washer caught between nut and main washer. Wheel did not come off when riding; but I'm amazed original owner did not see that, before selling it to me. It made all the difference to fix one thing at a time; test ride it, and I could tell instantly I had my culprit! Had to re-align the back caliper too; glad I just purchased a rotor alignment shoe that fits over the rotor when adjusting; worked like a charm; I find them difficult to adjust properly otherwise. It was definitely out of alignment once the wheel was on tight; it would not spin for long when on a stand, without realignment, and when I loosened the caliper, took it out of the equation; all was well... nice to have a bike stand, can't recommend it enough; if you like bikes, get a stand.

@@jiml4987 yes I did consider that but since the sanctions on Syria and the government restrictions through customs make it very hard to get anyting that you need it. The available electric bikes are very heavy (check the link below) so the upgrade will not be effective. On other hand living in third floor make hard to carry that heavy bike. And laking of electricity (2hours every 5hours) needed fast charging battery.

@Ash Mraish I wish more people would talk about sanctions and the impact it has on generations. The politicians enforcing embargoes should be locked up for crimes against humanity. The reason I became an engineer was hobby grade remote control cars, helicopters and quadcopters. I built my first electric car when I was 13 from a $25 VW beetle. I couldn't even imagine how my life would have turned out not having resources available for projects. The link didn't post. Similar to the old style gas mopeds?

In my area its better the before but alot still facing 10 hours without electricity. Imagine you can't do simple things because there is no fuel. I used to think the idea of hydraulic brakes on a bike was weird, but now I have them. Man, I'd never go back! The responsiveness, the level of control and confidence that I feel knowing that I can go from lightly feathering the brakes all the way to locking the wheels with very little effort tallowing me to use more fine motor control to carefully adjust my speed- oreover I worried such strength would lead to more skidding- but it is the opposite, because you can fine tune braking force easily with only two fingers- allowing more grip on the bars for steering- but also keeping your braking on the threshold for more controlled and ultimately faster braking with less wear! I had to keep adjusting my old brakes constantly, I haven't adjusted my brakes in months and they are just as good as they were the day I bought it. I thought that maintenance would be harder, but there hasn't needed to be any, so if I need to learn to bleed a hydraulic system occasionally then so be it! I ust love how they respond, how I can stop quickly, even with one finger, but still feel more control and feedback than any cable system. I am a convert to hydraulic brakes! No contest, they are the best!

Here in Lansing, MI there's a "Bike co-op" that runs out of an old auto shop twice a week. Volunteer mechanics fix up donor bikes to sell, and teach local kids, parents, and riders how to fix their own bikes and assist with low-cost repairs. When they get bikes donated, they sell them at a reasonable cost to fund the co-op. Maybe you could find something like that down in Florida, or start your own. The Lansing bike co-op works because it's in a working class neighborhood where there are adults who might need\ an affordable bike or ebike to get to work. If you're willing to deal with the challenges of a low-income neighborhood, that's where I could see your ebike school find a physical home to help folks get transit.

Very good video. Same thing happened with me with a kickstand. Also you definitely have to do more brake maintence with mechnical brakes than hydraulic.

I know that you don’t have to pay for the e-bikes that you test and are now going to start giving away, but it shows how generous that you are!

Thanks for the information on derailleurs ....my MokWheel City bike only has 400 miles on it and the chain pops off every once in awhile. I'm going to try to adjust the low and high nuts on the derailleur and rear nut . I hope this resolves the problem!!

Great video, as usual! I'm glad you started with the brakes, considering the recent freakout regarding mechanical disc brakes. They are fine if you know how to adjust them, and you just showed everyone. No excuses! :)

I've been contemplating getting an ebike for exercise 🤔 I have a conventional bike 🚲 however I'm now retired and in my 70's with a lung ailment known as pulmonary sarcoidosis, I only have 70% lung capacity but I'm not ready to give up on living so an ebike would give me a way feel that freedom I enjoyed when I was a much younger person 😀

I'm at 1200 miles on my ecotrik fat tire. Brakes about wore out. Shifter needs adjusted. Getting a little loose feeling but still running great. I keep my joints at 20 miles or less. Battery never left me peddling hard. I think I could get 40 miles out of a charge. Needs a higher gear in top. 500 watt motor. 36v battery.

Micah.. i have found i get more charge cycles if i fully drain the volts until it shuts off, then fully charge it.. By only draning partially, and capping it off every day, i find that the battery's number of cycles drop quickly, that's because there are only a set number of charge cycles.. Fully or Partially charging uses one of the cycles.. and every couple charges, you need to fully charge to keep the cells in balance.. out of balance can be a fire hazard..
