Hello Nancy. I love to knit socks, and I always feel so cack-handed and awkward when I do my Judy's magic cast on. Every time I end up coming back to you and your fab tutorial. You bring the enormity of it back down to a manageable size. Thank you over and over!

You're a life saver! Toe-up socks are easier for me to get the sizing right, but the first round after cast on is so stiff on DPNs.

Great tutorial. The tip to knit the first row instead of going straight into increases is something I’m going to try! Hopefully I can get my JMCO to look passable now 😅

Hi Nancy, thank you for explaining this cast on so well, it was way easier to understand and follow along with than the original blog post's instructions. I get a bit lost if I can't see and map out every new movement haha. I'm so excited to get started on my first pair of socks!!

Nancy, you’ve done it again as usual!! I just recently learned this cast on. I’ve heard of it but never needed to use it until trying toe up socks. I am using Magic Loop which I wanted to learn as well. The first person showed it where the stitches on the second needle had to be knit through the back needle on the first round only to reorient them correctly, which is no big deal. I watched another video which tweaked it so that all the stitches are properly oriented. It’s nice to see that you do it the same way! Every video I’ve watched has the first round knitted without increasing. I agree with you that increasing on the first round is not the way to go. Now that I’ve seen this I will try it on DPN’s as well! Thanks so much for sharing this! You are such a great teacher!! I really hope you make more videos!! 🤗💞

Thea Stewart Thank you Thea for your kind words. I most certainly will be making more videos this fall. I’ve been out of commission the past 6 months as my husband was diagnosed with advanced heart failure. We are finally in a good place with doctors, meds and a cardiac implant and God willing, he will continue to improve. Thank you again. 🙏

Thank you so much for this, I have been struggling with this so much! I have seen other people do it, but they didn't break it down quite the same way, and this finally made that little lightbulb go on for me. Now, if I can only get the tension right, I'm set! lol

I am teaching myself to knit for the main purpose of making socks. After breaking 3 sets of circular needles in my first two weeks I decided to try DPN's but couldn't figure out the cast on so this helped so much. Thank you 🌈

why did you use the third needle?

And then?? Why only 3 needles
@WynnKnit9 ай бұрын
As opposed to what? I think I'm confused by your question.
@swingback46535 жыл бұрын
no.. why do you have 3 2 and five stitches on 3 needles?.. is the sock knitted on 3 needles ? a bit confusing....
@WynnKnit5 жыл бұрын
swing back It’s knit in the round so I could even gone one further and split it among 4 needles and knit with the 5th. The amount of stitches per needle is often split according to pattern instruction or personal preference. If I recall, the pattern I was using had me split the stitches over 3 needles in that way. Does that make sense???
@xshiromorix3 жыл бұрын
@@WynnKnit Thank you. I was wondering the same thing. Due to the small number of stitches involved, I would have been inclined to knit that first round with just three needles (that is, two needles and the working needle) and then divide the stitches once everything was a little more stable. Now I'm wondering, though, if that might affect the tension.
@WynnKnit3 жыл бұрын
@@xshiromorix Hi Noah! Your tension will be just fine. 🧶
