Awesome video's you have been kind enough to share with other fishing nuts who love to catch big fish on hand painted lures. You are a true artist!

I think its really awesome you teach people your talent when most people that good at things keep it secret so thanks alot man. Ive found my newest way to spend time. Thanks again!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing Mikko. I noticed what looks like a filled hole behind the front hook hanger. Is that where you added the weight? Do you plan to do a video showing how you weight the various baits that you make?

for this particular lure i used 1.2mm wire naturally for smaller ones i would use smaller diameter wire so it depends what your making. what comes to the other question it might be harder to paint thin lines with that brush cos of the 0.3mm needle/nozzle configuration, the H&S infinity for example that i use has a 0.18mm needle/nozzle configuration so its relatively easy to paint thin lines with it.
@SolarfallBaits2 жыл бұрын
@kentuckyken actually I made a mistake there the nozzle size is 0.15mm on that airbrush I mixed it with my iwata one.
@SolarfallBaits11 жыл бұрын
yep that's the second weight hole that i've filled out. a lot of people have been asking me to make a "how to weight lures" video so i think i will do in the near future so stay tuned for that

Ive been watching your videos for a few months now and basically learned everything I do from you so thank you sooo much for your help but I have a couple of questions.....what size and what type of wire do you use? And also I have an Iwata hp-c airbrush but I cannot get thin lines figured out for painting...any tips? Thanks alot!

Hey Solar, are all your lures made from wood or do you make them out of hard plastic?
@stratag77811 жыл бұрын
dude your work is astounding, im getting there and getting results I could of only dreamed of before I saw your vids, but DAMN I see stuff like that and realise I still have a way to go. I have started making my own eyes now but from scratch using airbrush and water colours (I recon my eyes better than yours lol) but again no way would I of attempted this without your videos, thanks again Solar.

mate, this is obviously a labour of love, but every lure maker I speak to knows your name! have you thought about maybe putting a book together? id like to see the design process maybe some templates? ive found very limited resources when it comes to actual lure action and design. ive painted some up that look cool but when they are in the water they just don't perform like they should and I have to start again, you could even do a PFD where there is an option to donate? that's if you didn't want to monetise it! anyway peace brother Viking, keep up the good work.
@SolarfallBaits11 жыл бұрын
strata g havent given that any though it would be a very limited market to be honest and im pretty sure i can reach more people through the internet versus a book

nah sorry I ment e-book :-)

I noticed that you taped off the gills, but later silvered over that part. I use to do gold leafing work and that stuff is so thin that you can't tell where you over lapped leaf with leaf. So why did you tape off the gills, when you were going to silver that part as well?
@SolarfallBaits9 жыл бұрын
Parrot Bill at the time of making this video i found that to be the easiest method to avoid metal leaf from tearing at that particular area cos of the sharp carved details i did to this particular lure.
@parrotbill9 жыл бұрын
SolarBaits You did a good job so I guess it doesn't matter what path you took to get there.

oh PS any advice on getting that lateral line you do so well?
@SolarfallBaits11 жыл бұрын
its basically just a matter of determining where you want to the lateral line going then just drawing it and then punching holes to it on relatively similar intervals
@stratag77811 жыл бұрын
simple but smart! cheers mate. seems lazy asking and this did accure to me but when you prepped your lure for most of us last thing we want to do is ruin it. Again cheers chap. I want to do a video this summer, ill be tagging you in that for sure! a homage to the Solar lol

Great video I have just started trying to make lures an I have the hardest time carving things equal on both side is there a trick that helps also can u make a video showing some of your first lures u made thanks
@SolarfallBaits9 жыл бұрын
you could use stencils use them to draw where you need to carve, its relatively easy to get both sides the same that way.
@TheNick083329 жыл бұрын
Thanks an yea it should be don't know why I have so much trouble with it thanks again
@alanscustomlures99228 жыл бұрын
how do you hide the lines with foil tape?
@SolarfallBaits8 жыл бұрын
+alan depalma you just use a foil sealer that meant for metal leafing and let it dry and just paint on top of it and hide the foil edges that way
@andru64038 жыл бұрын

Hi, awesome videos mate, I have started to make my own and your lures are a huge inspiration. Would pine be ok for lures? I'm from Australia and we have different tree species like eucalyptus etc. But I have access to pine Cheers
@SolarfallBaits10 жыл бұрын
pine does work for lure making too but it of course depends on what kind of lures you make. i would recommend hardwoods since they don't have as much sap as softwoods like pine does, as it may end up seeping trough the bait. it might be a good idea to search some local aussie lure making forums and see what they are using over there, as I'm not very familiar with the indigenous wood species you guys have there. Oh and thank you for the compliment ;)

For cutting the leaf , Why can't u use a scissors instead of a knife ????
@SolarfallBaits8 жыл бұрын
you certainly could use scissors, i simply did not have any that had long and sharp enough blades.
@carnafishing01647 жыл бұрын
You'r lure it's very beautifull !!
@edstimator110 жыл бұрын
if you heat pine to 180 deg, F. for 30 minutes or so it will "set" the pitch which means that it will turn the sap into a crystaline structure that will no longer leak out of the wood. You're welcome
@SolarfallBaits10 жыл бұрын
well that would be fine and dandy if i was using pine wood here. pine as a lure making wood is not very good in my opinion anyway.
