I'm so glad I tried it first in the sim - 10 speed crashes out of 10 attempts 😆 not so easy as you make it look like 😀

@@lev_on_heliGood idea. I bet the sim is more difficult than real life though. Tricky not seeing the ground, but very good practice 👍
@lev_on_heli4 ай бұрын
@@rchelicopter yes, not seeing the ground is very difficult - it's hard to understand when it's time to slow down. So the main challenge is to synchronize three phases: 1. gain max speed with max negative collective, 2. turn to the "slight" negative collective to get the most of the energy to spin the rotor 3. Turn to the positive collective to keep the heli from crashing. Hope I understood the methodology correctly.
@rchelicopter4 ай бұрын
@@lev_on_heli That's pretty much it. Although you don't have to go full negative to get speed. Somewhere between some and not too much will do. And maybe a touch more than slight when levelling, otherwise it will pull out forward instead of down. But pretty good 👍

The secret to overspeeds is lowering the governor gain. Some flybarless units allow you to change the overspeed gain separately from the underspeed gain. This allows big overspeeds with little degradation of flight performance. No matter how you feel about overspeeds, they are a huge crowd-pleaser. Really fast overspeeds are dangerous. The heli probably won't explode while doing it, but if you do them all the time, expect a catastrophic failure. *Don't overspeed "stretched" or lightweight models, such as the Piuma, or the Dnamic.*

I've only flown non collective flybar stabilized helis before but have several that I plan on flying at some point. I really like the idea of Auto's and thought this overspeed from an outside loop to a low pass auto would be cool trying to get it into ground effect and see how long a distance the auto could be flown. Then you said letting the head speed drop after the over speed was a pointless exercise... IDK would it be in such a flight though.
@rchelicopter4 ай бұрын
I may have been joking just a little bit that it was a pointless exercise, but I was trying to convey that one should do something with all the energy that has been built up. And you would be, as you're doing something interesting with it. Be careful with it. I've had a few crashes stretching autos like that, where you end up with forward speed and run out of headspeed, which turns into cartwheel. I like the idea!
@brianhutchinson78634 ай бұрын
@@rchelicopter ok I won't be flying my helis probably anytime too soon and have a good bit of practice before I can be doing anything wild like that. The sailplane enthusiast in me likes Autos though. I understand the cartwheel possibility. Forward speed but not enough rotor disk speed and the side of the disk with retreating blades stalls rolling the heli then close proximity to ground = cartwheel.

Richard, I see you are flying a Tron machine. What model is it? And I'm assuming this is one of your favorite machines? Also I watched your video on how to do rainbows as I'm trying to learn Tick Tocks. But when I try to do a TT, the model looks nothing like a TT. What suggestions do you have to pull it off? I can fly rainbows with no problem. Thanks!
@rchelicopter4 ай бұрын
This is a Tron 7.0 Advance. I love it. Look and flies great completely stock, didn't have to change a thing. What do you mean "doesn't look like a tictoc"? If you can do rainbows, transition to mini rainbows, and then start playing with slow, medium and fast tictocs, and figure out where it falls apart.

@@rchelicopter it looks squirrelly is the best way I can describe i. Not 3Dish at all. I'm not sure if I'm giving too much collective? Is the trick to ease on the collective and give it more cyclic?
@LichaelMewis4 ай бұрын
@@rchelicopter regarding the Tron I was looking into maybe getting a Dynamic.
@rchelicopter4 ай бұрын
@@LichaelMewis Overdoing the collective is a common issue, where it feels like you're moving a lot of air around. Try the version where you do a brief pause at the end of each tic. You may need to go a bit flatter, but to do it well you'll have to start each tic with a pop and end with a little delayed cyclic so you get a bit of lift out of it.
