Hello, I was wondering if it is necessary to use silk thread when knotting pearls? or could i use fireline or wildfire instead? Thank you for your time.

Silk thread is the traditional thread used to knot pearls. Silk thread is soft and the naturally perfect choice to protect the pearls from wear or damage. Fireline is a rather stiff cord that I don't think comes in a thick enough size. It is not soft and subtle to give you the kind of protection you would want for your pearls. We highly recommend Griffin Silk for knotting pearls.

A Grain of Sand Thank you for answering my question so quickly. I will be using the Griffin Silk then. I didn't realize until now how stiff the fireline was. when you said to use the silk for the softness, I remembered that the fireline did not set well when I tried to make fringed dangles one time. once again I thank you for getting right back to me.
