The above video explains 2 very important aspects if ventilator care bundle in ICU:
1. How to do proper endotracheal tube suction in ICU and
2. How far the suction catheter should be inserted
These are very important in preventing the Ventilator associated pneumonia and trauma to tracheal carina.
We hope that this video will help our fellow nursing staff and doctors.
0:00 introduction
0:32 Theory of how much length of suction catheter should be inserted
4:01 Beside demonstration of how to do endotracheal suction
Please ask your doubts and queries in the comment section.
Also do subscribe to our channel for regular educational videos related to ICU and ER.
My name is Dr. Ankur Gupta. I am intensivist by profession and Head of the Intensive care and emergency department. I am also the Founder President of Educational Society of Bedside Intensive Care Medicine (ESBICM). My passion is to teach the medical students and nurses regarding the practical aspects of working in ICU and ER. In the early days I used to record my lectures in ICU and upload them so that those who have missed, can listen to them or those who have attended can revise in case they didn’t understand some stuff. I slowly found that those videos were proving to be help for doctors and nurses in other hospitals, states, and even other countries. I started getting feedback and request for other lectures. But the trigger for this channel came when due to one of my videos, one emergency resident was able to save life of a patient with celphos poisoning. That day I decided to start a dedicated educational channel for residents and nurses working in ICU and ER.
Why the name RegularCrisis ?
As you all know, those working in ER and ICU are facing tough conditions like ventilating the patient, doing CPR, managing crashing patients, life saving surgeries, life threatening trauma, interacting with attendants in their difficult times, etc... on daily basis. All these are crisis like situation for anyone else but for us working in ICU and ER, it’s a regular thing; that's why the term 'RegularCrisis'. I hope that this channel will continue to help hundred and thousands of medical students, doctors, nurses and paramedic healthcare staffs who are working dedicatedly in ICU and ER for saving the lives of millions of patient.

Hi , I am an inpatient physiotherapist and practise suctioning with the patients who required it . One suction time should not be more than 8-12 secs and u can do 2-3 reps as per patient requirement . Also keep checking vitals (mainly spo2) and provide enough o2 in between the suction reps to oxygenate lungs if not connected to the ventilator.
