How to do Rey's Hair from Star Wars

I hope you're as excited for the new Star Wars movie as I am! Episode VII the Force Awakens is coming to theaters this December, but I couldn't wait that long to show you Rey's esoteric triple bun hairstyle. It's very easy and can be adapted for just about any hair length. Give it a try!
Difficulty: Easy
Hair Length: at least shoulder length
Materials: one small hair elastic, three large hair ties, a few bobby pins
Skills needed: nothing special
Time cost: 10-20 minutes

If you have superlong hair, you could likely combine the two techniques by doing one or two wraps, pinning, and then adding the remaining length into the next bun.

I usually have such a hard time doing anything with my hair because its so thick and frizzy but this was pretty easy! Frizz was still an issue for me but nothing that can't be handled. Thanks for the tutorial! It was super easy to follow!

I made it in about 4 1/2 minutes and found it pretty easy, though I have to say it doesn't look that amazing it's not bad considering that I'm a guy who hasn't an idea of hairstyling.

Just did this! I found that with my very long hair, it was much easier to go from the bottom up. So I figured out my bottom section then clipped the rest up out of the way, then repeated for the middle section and that way I didn't have the issue of the loop from above flopping down on the section I'm working on. Super easy though!

Great video. I (father) was trying to figure out how to do Rey’s hair for my daughter. I came up with something similar to your exposed hair tie technique. But after trying the hair wrap method, it came out great for Halloween!

I ended up adapting this one as a combination of the two methods. Basically, I've got really long hair. So when I wrapped it around the band, it made each bun look quite big, there wasn't any space between them...it was a bit annoying. The version with the band showing was fine, I didn't have any trouble with it, asides from the fact my head looks a big bulgy down the bottom because there's a long tail tucked under and of course, the band was showing. So I took a small section from each tail and used it to cover the band. Then tied the rest into the next bun. It works!
