How to do rock design with fossil

Hi guys, I watched all you videos, you are amazing man! I woukd like to try myself do some carvings stones. Can you please tell me ,or make a video on how you prepare the mixture, the mortar? Is it normal cement, or is it mortar ready mix ? What should be the consistancy of the mixture? Percentage of cement / sand ? Thank's man! Your works should be an inspiration for many others in this domain! Masterpiece!!!

Not sure what rich in clay looking soil they are using ? Volcanic sand maybe ? Anyway, I'm a retired stonemason from Germany/ Australia and I been doing this recently using Plasterers sand , hydrated lime ( even better would be liquid lime putty ) , and a creme or general purpose grey cement ( depending on preferred colour finish , creme produces a limestone finish ) with a ratio of : 5 : 1 & 1 . General rule is mortar should not be harder than the surface it is being applied to ! The partial art here is timing , so the mortar for dabbing and carving are not too wet and not too dry . I wish I could post my photos on here. Btw , note the scratch coat ! - very important for base coat . Put plastic on floor to catch droppings you can scoop up and remix to use. ( efficiency and less mess / waste ) practice a square meter on your own house perhaps ? If possible? If brick?

it is amazing how the mortar stays in place without sliding down even with a thick coat, what is the product you are using? what are the proportion (sand, cement, hydraulic lime maybe?)

it looked great until the paint came on

The guy never got the base terracotta colour into the cracks. It makes it look uneven and inconsistent. Like a bad artificial rock design. Then they overdid it with the drybrush painting. But the really sad part was not texturing the rock before adding the fossil. That strangely flat area, while the rest of the rock was textured with the mold, looks kind of artificial. What a shame. It had good potential. Just a mediocre paint and texture detracting a little from the effect.

Actually where a fossil forms in the rock would mostly look flat and featureless bc the body of the animal would be the only impression and the rest filled with sediment creating a smooth area in an egg shape around the lizard in this piece. I'm a fossil collector and Hunter through hobby and 80% of the time this is exactly how I find them. Oftentimes the smooth rock or a rounded rock is what alerts our eyes that a fossil may be underneath.
