Thanks to your techniques and excellent explanations, the world of smaller grass fields has opened up to me. I frequently use the "clear the trees, lower the power, slip down, add power and land softly" technique. Slow flight practice is definitely the key. Also helps to do simulated approaches at practice altitudes with airspeed just above stall speed.

Excellent video! I will have to watch it several times to get all the tips. Started looking at your other videos and also enjoy them. I frequently fly into KLAM at 7000msl so I appreciate the need to be aware of the winds before you start the approach. The need for a good stabilized approach is simple, but well worth the effort. Airspeed is attitude and altitude is power…. Patrick from Albuquerque

Love you videos! At 3:14 you show the Mooney (piper painter?) landing. Do you happen to have video of their takeoff? As an M20C owner I’m always interested in footage of them in less conventional situations.

The Angle of Attack indicator has to be one of the best piece of tool to have in any aircraft and I will let you how many pilots that are interested in buying one and install it in his 1968 182Skylane

Great! One way you can use the same technique is, with the field secure put your rpm’s to 1300 and maintain the VSI in 500 fits/min, pulling the yoke back slow, and if you don’t want to use it, just use more power, that will force you to mantain the pitch below the horizon

I recently bought a 182p and been to busy with work to fly it as much as I like. I love your videos and hope to be more free to practice some of what your showing in the Fall. I bought a Levil BOM and plan to use it for my AOA with an iphone showing the info on the glare shield. Looking forward to learning as much as I can.

It helps me to come up with a better strategy to land short with a Cessna 172. I have 31 hours of flight as a student pilot now and need to nail my landings at a specific point. Almost there. Thanks for your video.

Read CC Pococks book, learn the area of reverse control, “power for altitude and pitch for speed”. That said, as a student pilot gets some time and advanced instruction under your belt before trying this type of flying. Good luck with your Solo and checkride!

Dear Larry, Thanks for another good video. It would also be good to see what you do about short field landings in gusty and cross wind conditions? Cheers.
@motoadveBackcountry1822 жыл бұрын
Its a good question, I do this kind of flying for fun, I never go on windy days to gravel bars, or short technical strips, too risky to come slow to do very short landings in windy gusty conditions.

So the trick is to slight control/increase the power after round out to control the sink rate? Like slow flying into the ground?
@motoadveBackcountry182 Жыл бұрын
Exactly
@dtsh4451 Жыл бұрын
@@motoadveBackcountry182 much appreciated! I am close to PPC checkride and has been struggling with short field landing. Most of the time I just dump all flaps, hold the plane and let it sink into the ground effect after the round out. It’s really tricky to control the flare timing: early flare, the plane is going to float; late flare, the touch down point is hard to predict. I am going to try your method next practice:slow flight after round out to touch down 👍🤓

The Mooney has a great set of efficient flaps. IF YOU KNOW how to use the flaps you will find the Mooney is less work in the landing. "Who wants to add work load" to an aircraft with a beautiful high aspect ratio wing?

The audio of the stall warning in the C170? (blue aircraft) is so hideous, it's hurting the watchability of your clip. The balance between your voice & the stall warning is too large, and it's painful to listen to.
