Temps levé is a basic ballet step that means "lifted step" in French. It's a simple jump that involves hopping off one foot and landing on the same foot while the other leg is lifted off the ground, in any ballet position like coupe, passe, arabesque etc.
Temps levé in arabesque is a basic ballet step that combines the lifted step of temps levé with the elegant position of arabesque. Essentially, you'll be hopping onto one foot and lifting the other leg behind you in a graceful curve.
Here's how to do it in three easy phases, with some humor sprinkled in:
Phase 1️⃣ Preparation
🔸 Start with your feet together and your arms in 1st position
(kinda like you're holding a pizza box).
🔸 Take a deep breath and imagine yourself as a majestic swan,
ready to gracefully soar through the air.
🔸 Shift your weight onto one foot, and lift the other leg slightly behind you.
Phase 2️⃣ Jump
🔸 Push off the ground with your supporting foot, and hop onto the ball of your foot while
lifting your other leg into a beautiful arabesque position.
🔸 Imagine yourself as a ballerina princess floating on a cloud, or a superhero taking flight.
🔸 Keep your arms lifted in 1st position and your eyes focused on a point in front of you
to help with balance.
Phase 3️⃣ Finish
🔸 Land gracefully on the ball of your supporting foot with the other leg still lifted in arabesque.
🔸 Smile and pretend like you just nailed a perfect 10 in the Olympics.
🔸 Lower your lifted leg down to the ground and return to your starting position.
Remember, ballet is all about having fun and expressing yourself through movement. Don't be afraid to let loose and embrace your inner ballerina.
