I studied Marcelo's NS choke for years, and here's another example or two where he looks towards the side of the choking arm: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmTbqGB9pruWha8si=rkKNCS1SBHsjQ1u0&t=241 and kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH64laiMoZySjtUsi=lfVcCTu0Ez_cEf0S&t=264

Very odd variation coming from Marcelo especially since I always though he preferred arm-out variations for guillotines/north south chokes. I think Jeff Monson used to do this type of choke.

great point. I used to be on MGinaction for years, and Marcelo will sometimes do this variation, although he doesn't think it's quite as powerful as when he grips around the just the head with a gable grip. If he happens to end up with the arm inside of his grip like against Imanari, he uses a traditional guillotine or seatbelt grip. And he doesn't consider the variation he did against Imanari quite as strong or even preferable, and he won't do variations that actually use their own arm or shoulder to choke them. He s[end most of his energy on sprawling backwards, and their arm just kind of ends up wherever it may be.
