One of the primary escapes from bottom mount when your partner has your neck controlled is to bridge them over so you can find yourself in a top position. In BJJ, the top position is always best and if you can go from a bottom position up to a top position as a part of your escape; then, this is an absolute bonus. Firstly, if you find that you can’t get your hands in front of you to defend against your partner’s weight; then, you can still use your arms to push against your partner’s shoulders or temples as a part of your bridge.
A key feature to a successful bridge escape is to first bridge right; and then, bridge left. Bridging multiple times in different directions confuses your partner, disrupts their balance and heightens the success rate of your bridge escape.
Once you’ve bridged your partner over, almost always you’ll find yourself in Closed Guard. Be sure to stay safe as your partner can still sweep or submit you from their Closed Guard.
