This was the video that made it click for me. I could get a good fingerspin every time but getting the DNA consistent was tough. It would either wrap below my finger, or I would miss the gap entirely, or it would bind back immediately without time for me to react. I could get it about 20% of the time: Following the tips in this video had me hit 18/20 attempt right off the bat. I can now do it consistently

What I learn to make it more consistent is get a yo-yo harder to finger spin I transitioned from the dna yo-yo to the magic yo-yo crystal and I also loosened the string to minimise the amount of tension

I am having an issue where I get some nice long fingerspins, however when i throw the string to bind, its like my yo-yo (yoyofactory atom smasher) brakes to a slow halt almost immediately as the string binds around it. No time to even go for dna, and if i do pull it off by then the spin is almost gone and the dna is all wobbly and not enough spin to return yoyo to my hand. Yoyo and string are almost new. Will try to lube the bearing, but anyone else know the issue and what could be wrong?

Almost certainly that means your yoyo is not spinning fast enough. This is almost always the problem for players who are first learning finger spins and then DNA.

I'd get a Yoyo Factory Whip over a One. The One is kinda small and weird, which you can't really tell from the pictures online. There's lots of better yoyos for not a lot more if you can swing it, including the Sage featured on this video.

It comes responsive, and if you get the Starter pack you can swap out the bearing and make it unresponsive. We talk all about it in this video, actually.

I got the sage starter pack and it came with two bottles of thin lube instead of thick. Could I just use more of the thin lube on a responsive bearing in place of thick lube?

That can work. I would write us through the contact form and let us know, though. You will want thick lube as you get better for certain yoyos.

@YoTricks well im glad I have plenty of the thin because I mostly play unresponsive. Just every now and then it's fun to use a responsive, I just never lube the bearing. I've cleaned and lubed my unresponsive and they are like butter!

That one is good. It is unresponsive, though, so you will need to learn to bind if you can't do that already.

Do you ever recommend de-shielding bearings? Like for easier Lube application?

No. De-shielding a bearing will make cleaning it more effective, but once you do this it will then need to be cleaned more often. It does not help at all when it comes to lubing bearings, in my experience.

Hubstack yoyos are not very good for DNA. They do not balance easily on your finger, so it makes everything more difficult than necessary.
