We are headed to the UK for August and September and will have a Tesla. Your video was SO helpful! Really appreciate the hint about going a couple miles east of the tourist spot at John O'Groats. We've subscribed. Your channel is awesome.

Great blog Steve and great advice to all comers too this great country of ours! I/we did the nc 500 way back in the 80s, Now a 73 year old carer for my wife, we could never attempt it again! We have been everywhere in Scotland when we were younger with cars/motorhomes - no net back then! Talking about net - A midge net and skin so soft cream will help you in keeping the midges off your face on your next visit! We have done the west highland way, the Caledonian canal and island hoping. We have a timeshare at Rannoch. Many make Scotland their home once they have made that visit too Scotland! I am sure you can understand why! We have an EV - MG. There are so many places to visit inland also Steve! Haste ye back!

We did the 500 a year ago so watched it as we reminisced and we have just bought a used 2015 Nissan Leaf. I don't think we'll be redoing it in that. Driving was a lot better than I thought as I think when we went it was quiet as I think most people had gone abroad for the 1st real time after lockdown. The langoustines were amazing. The castle was superb. One of the best views (I think it's called the James Bond view) was where it went foggy for you (and us). It's a shame but it gives us a reason to do the trip again, although we might leave out the east side and go up the middle and turn left at the top. The west is stunning. You should have gone on the Glynfeddick train from Fort William. It was amazing and is supposed to be one of the best railway journeys in the world, which I can well believe.

I've driven a Tesla around Scotland a lot. Use the CCS2/Type2 (not Chademo). It'll fit the car already (older model S/X need CCS update, I have it, well worth it). I had to call Charge Place Scotland a few times as older chargers wouldn't work with the CPS App. They always got them working. Electricity in Scotland was cheap, but the chargers were slower.

Fantastic video :D I loved the Applecross Inn, next time im in Scotland its a must revisit I think! You guys were lucky though, in both directions the fog was so bad for us, we couldn't even see the cars parked on the other side of the road, let alone the views lol

Great video showing the issues with Charge Place Scotland. We’ve just got back from 12 days in Scotland, mainly driving in the Highlands & the West Coast. Charge Place Scotland at the moment is useless, took over a month for our RFID card to turn up, (on the day we got back to Cambridge) & half the time the Charge Your Car app didn’t work nor did anyone answer the phone to us. Wish I’d known about the issues & not pushed to take delivery of my E-Niro before we left & stuck with the BMW 330e. Will definitely go back again though now we have the card & hopefully the new operators will have the network working as it should…

Cracking video Steve 👍 We are looking to to do NC500 this year, may be September / October in our new-to-us (but still old ish) i3 REX. That said the EV range is 60-80 miles (winter - summer) plus about 80-90 miles from REX, but will only use that in emergency. Consequently looking for maybe 50-60 miles a day, so really taking our time here, we are not in a rush at all. Liked your tips there at the end of the vid .. apart form those, and I guess this is to anyone here, what else would you recommend please? I have just today started to look at NC500 so early days here regarding planning and that.

I've never had a problem with CCS chargers on non-Tesla chargers. Granted, it does always feel like an experiment! 😁

Great video!! I’m thinking of doing this in August so that doesn’t leave much time for planning. I wonder if the broken charging points were marked as broken on various apps? It’ll be so rubbish if I can’t charge when I get to the destination :O

@@SteveJulien we’ve just done it!!!!! It was amazing. We had fog towards the end of day 1 and start of day 2, but after that it was sunny everyday, we sent the rain down south to help with the drought, Scottish people are kind that way 🤪 I think ChargePlace Scotland has added a few more charging stations around the NC500, also tends to be where there is a tourist attraction. So we could stop and charge while sightseeing. The only broken ones were: PodPoint in Tesco in Wick (50kW and 22kW broken and only the 7kW was working so I didn’t bother and carried on until Thurso before I charged - from Inverness), and the DC chargers in Tongue. But this was good in hindsight, so I used the 22kW AC, walked to Castle Varrich, came back and it was nearly done. If I had the fast charger, it would’ve finished charging way before I finished walking! Between Applecross and Fort William there are now 3 villages with chargers so you’re not stuck with just Sheil Bridge. I charged in Torridon, and decided not to charge before FW cos I was tired and just wanted to get to FW. Got here with 45% left! Best of all my dog was an absolute star, she must be fed up with all the driving! But she tolerated it so well!
